Well, the KitchenAid Classic Stand Mixer is very useful. The original packaging includes the mixer itself, a paddle attachment, whisk and dough hook. The paddle attachment is used for most needs. The whisk attatchment is used for whipping up items such as egg whites or whipping cream. The dough hook is for those who love to make homemade bread products, but don't like to knead the dough. The dough hook actually kneads the dough for you. Other attachments can be purchased from a variety or retailers. If you have always wanted a meat grinder, or an ice cream maker, they have attachments for that too. I have only made one cake from a box with my mixer. Found that it is to much work for something so simple. I use the mixer for homemade items such as cookies, breads, even in the process of making jerky. I have owned my Stand Mixer for 2 years and have never had any problems with the motor overheating or needed repairs. The downside to the KitchenAid Classic Stand Mixer, as with all of the KitchenAid Stand Mixers is that it is heavy. But the weight is necessary as for the casing and the motor itself. The other downside is that the coating is not puncture resistant. I have kids, and they have destroyed the color coating with scratches. The bonus to that is that underneath the coating is a sheer metallic surface that looks good. I have also found that the screw that hold in the plate where you would put attachments is always loose. This is due to vibrations from the motor itself. I have had most of the knobs have fallen off, but the knobs are attached to metal levers, so at least they are still usable. Overall, the appearance is good, good quality motor inside. You can expect to keep this item in one spot if you use it alot. After a while the quality of appearance has withstood if you don't have kids. The Stand Mixer is worth every penny if you spend enough time in the kitchen. This mixer will outdo any hand mixer any day, and the motor will withstand more than a hand mixer.
