I bought my Kitchenaid Stand Mixer after a couple of years of debate. I didn't think I could justify the cost. Then I had the opportunity to use a friend's stand mixer and immediately went out and bought my own. I've had it for about a year, and it gets moderate to heavy use.
The versatility of this appliance is one of the things that drew me to it. Mine came with three different beaters - a whisk, a paddle and a dough hook. I have used all of them for various tasks, and they all perform well. The beater is off-set, so that it rotates close to the sides of the bowl, greatly lessening the need to scrape the sides while mixing. It works very efficiently and quickly. I love it for making whipped cream, because it takes a fraction of the time as it would with a hand mixer.
The Kitchenaid Stand Mixer is a great time saver, because you can start mixing something and move on to other tasks while the mixer keeps going. You can add ingredients while it's still mixing, and the nice variety of speeds means you can start out slow without making a big mess and then go faster once the ingredients are incorporated.
Even though I've only had my mixer for a year, I already can't imagine how I lived without it before. I am a single person and usually just cook for myself, but I do a lot of baking, especially around the holidays, and it's very handy for that. I cannot recommend this product highly enough.
It does take up some counter space, and it's heavy, so you don't want to have to move it around a lot, but it's well worth finding a permanent spot on your counter for it.
