We installed this Kitchen Aid dishwasher about a year ago.  I have found that it cleans just as well on the light setting as the normal or heavy setting.  I am more concious of conserving hot water and energy and was surprised at how well it cleans on the lighter dishwashing settings.  I like the material that the inside racks are made of.  I know it's a no-no, but I put my good knives in the top rack with no problems,  My other dishwasher racks got tore up a bit by the knives.  My only complaints would be that the dishsoap dispenser does not open all the way up each time and so we have a sticky gooey mess on the door a couple times a week.  When this happens, the dishes still look clean.  The other thing is that the rinse agen nob on the door does not stay on securely no matter how hard you tighten it and it has been replaced at my expense twice so far. Both times it melted on the heating element.   I don't use a rinse agent anymore because of this.

We went with installing this KitchenAid dishwasher into our brand new home and have had issues with it from day one.  The normal cycle takes over an hour and a half to complete, which is probably why other reviewers have said they have never gotten dishes so clean.  In an area with water and energy conservation is key, this is not acceptable.  In our previous home, we had a GE dishwasher did the same job in half the time and most likely consuming far less energy than this KitchenAid dishwasher we installed.  In addition, the cleaning agent dispenser doesn't always fully open so there are times when we open the dishwaher up and half the cleaing agent is all over our utensils because it hasn't been rinsed away. Another gripe we have is the fact that we can't fit two rows of dinner plates in the dishwasher.  The dimensions of the dishwasher seem to be a little off and doesn't meet our expectations.
