Kirby's are heavy, klunky, way more expensive than they are worth. You're better off buying a brand new Oreck every four years, getting the latest and greatest technologies, and still paying less than owning the same Kirby for 12 years. Replacement parts are ridulously priced, too.

Since I've owned a Kirby, all my baseboards have been damaged from the heavy head that comes with a black rubber bumper that leaves black rubber streaks all over your baseborads and/or chips off the paint. I can never get under low furniture, such as beds and dressers, which forces me to move heavy furniture to get underneath it.  It's great for homes with black baseboards and without furniture...

I recently bought the Sentria model and its great. It absolutely blew away the Dyson we had. Yes it is a bit of a pain to change the tools, but a small inconvenience as compared to how well it cleans. We also did the 'in home comparison' By vacuuming with the Dyson and revacuuming with the Kirby. I was shocked by home much dirt and dog fur the Dyson had left behind that we found in the bag.

Apparently you do not own the newer Sentria model which does not have the "black bumper." The new model also has many upgrades from the older ones (we also have a G-6). The Sentria has a new stronger motor, drive system, and is made of cast aluminum instead of steel, just to mention a few. They did the demonstration against my six month old Dyson DC17 that I got for Christmas last year. I do like the manuverability of the Dyson and some of the other things like it being more lightweight, bagless, ect. But when it comes to cleaning power, it was no contest, the Kirby won hands down. It really deep cleans, not just the top surface. Our carpets had begun to tamp down in heavy traffic areas and become dingy. After the kirby ran over these areas, the nap was restored and to my astonishment the carpets looked much cleaner. It is also awesome when cleaning carpeted stairs...which is almost impossible with the Dyson.

I'm with Icarus, I HATE our new Kirby and I can't wait to get rid of it and buy another Dyson, which was STOLEN from us, they just took it and we didn't notice until after using the Kirby for a couple of weeks and wanted to go back to our Dyson! The company just gives us a runaround about my Dyson and denies that they left with it! I hate the company, and anyone that represents them.

Maybe you should stop ramming your baseboards with the Kirby and try using the hose and some of the attachments to clean under the beds and dressers. That is what they are for, you know. And about buying a new oreck every 4 years, you are also going to have to buy a new shampooer to soak your carpet with water every 2 years also.

Your an idiot! The Kirby Sentria will out clean and out last any other vacuum!
