Please help me expose the so-called salespeople from Great Southern Distributing, out of Tuscaloosa, AL. They are targeting homes in our county, claiming to be selling Kirby Vacuums. This is a three-person team that after verification, does work for the GSD. They are representing themselves as either college students, or disabled vets, in order for the person at the home to feel sorry for them and allow them to "demonstrate" the Kirby Vacuum. After the seemingly-sweet young "college student" gives her spill about how she will get credit for the visit even if you do not buy anything, and it pays her tuition to school, she sends in a sales person to demonstrate the devise. After the brief demo, she comes back in and "closes the deal". They first ask upwards of $2400 for their super vacuum. Then, when people say no, they suddenly give the sad story that they will not get their bonus if they don't sell two more before the end of the week, so they drop the price to $1500. They offer a trade-in of your old vacuum, which will claimingly cover the down payment/first payment. If they still get no bites, they throw a pitch about their 45-day in-home trial. The trial is supposed to be for lower-income families to try out the devise and then return it if they are not 100% sold on the product. Of course, they inform you that they still have to run your credit "just for verification". They explain that even after you decide to purchase, their company does not report to the credit reporting agencies, so there really is no recourse for allowing the unit to be returned. If they still get no for an answer, they resort to the sweet college student explaining that she will lose her scholarship if she doesn't make quota. They offer a last-ditch effort by asking you to please allow this unit to stay at your home for ten days, and just cancel it after that. She explains that there will be no recourse or adverse action as long as it is cancelled within the 45 days, but they still get credit for selling it, and they keep their bonus. They go on to tell their victims that "they own the finance company, and they can just show that it was the product that was less than satisfactory if the victim decided to return it. If you agree to help the poor helpless salespeople out, they draw up the contracts to show you actually gave them cash money, mostly in the sum of around $150, plus the trade-in of your old vacuum, which the salesperson agrees to take out of their own pocket. This supposedly "contractually binds" you to the purchase. These three people then leave with their contract, and leaves the vacuum there. A representative from the "Finance Dept." will call you to verify the terms of the contract. These people count on you to remember the sad story they told you, and they expect you to lie to the verification department of their business. If you ask these people to reassure you of the 45-day no-obligation trial, they know nothing about it. They explain that once your three-day cancellation period is over, you have bought yourself a vacuum cleaner. They also go on to explain that they are in no part affiliated with Kirby, and they only provide you with the 22.19% interest rated financing. They also charge a $281 fee for financing, instead of paying cash. These defrauders are targeting older homes and lower-income neighborhoods. They are taking advantage of older people and under-educated low-income families that naturally have a trusting instinct. Please help me expose these crooks before they ruin the financial standings of our neighbors. We were lucky and caught it in time. We are now awaiting for Great Southern Distributing to come pick their equipment up from our home. The question is, if it was so easy for me to cancel the order, how many do they factor in as risk over the ones that do not catch it in time?
Their Phone number is 205-248-9470. Dont be surprised if you get hung up on...
