I wouldn't give up my Kirby for any other brand.

Pros

    picks up dirt like mad, power is amazing, has good variety of attachments, built to last, great filtration

Cons
    more expensive, weight, if not handled correctly, supplies usually found thru dealer only

Kirby Vacuum - G5 Upright Vacuum — 

Kirby's are long lasting and effective with little maintainence. They do require that you are somewhat mechanically inclined. I use a couple of the tools in the canister attachement on a regular basis, but when I deep clean once or twice a year, I use almost every attachment available. My husband has severe allergies and the filtration has been tested and proven in our household. My only warnings are: start with the basics and add on when learning the machine and think twice before buying if you have a bad back and a multi-level home.

I am looking for an upright with powerful hose suction. I've heard great things about the Kirby. Do find the suction to be strong. I have pets and a child with allergies. I would appreciate any insight you could offer.
