The majority of reviewers are finding the Kirby Vacuum G4 to be a "solid, old-fashioned sweeper built to work and last." They do note that it's very heavy, but don't find it to be much of a problem since it's self-propelled. Despite it being self-propelled , it's "not the most user-friendly machine, but it does a great job picking up the dirt." While some worried about making this huge investment on a Kirby vacuum after borrowing a friend's when their Kirby was broken, they found "it pick up nothing compared to the Kirby!" Reviewers not that the G4 "picks up everything but paperclips, and is very easy to push." Overall, they want everyone to know, "It sucks good."

Most HelpfulI used to have a hard time telling door to door sales people no so obviously I bought the Kirby G4. It was about 10 or 11 years ago and it was about $1200 I believe. We made payments on it and eventually paid it off. For a while I thought I made a bad decision in paying so much for a vacuum. But about a year ago the fan housing unit busted because my kids thought it would pick of everything (which it basically does but over time it realizes it is being abused lol). I borrowed a friend's vacuum and it picks up NOTHING compared to the Kirby! I couldn't afford to get it fixed for a while so I suffered...
read full review »Kirby is the best vacuum I have ever used. It is a bit heavy but it is also self-propelled, both forwards and backwards. Bags are about $2 a piece but are quite large and have micro filtration. I bought mine on Craigslist for $100 and it had all the accessories including the zipbrush which is excellent at pet hair removal on upholstery. I have used the carpet shampooer and the carpet is dry in 2 hours NOT 2 days. My mother in law has her Kirby now for over 30 years and it still runs! HIGHLY recommend.
All Kirby vacuums are a horrible scam. They claim to have awesome warranties, yet to get the outrageously priced vacuum fixed costs as much as replacing it with an efficient vacuum. DON'T fall into the scam.
My mother-in-law told me she was fed-exing her old Kirby vacuum to us. Why would i want an old vacuum cleaner??? All I can say now is that its the best gift i have ever received!!! I have never used a vacuum with the power of a kirby. we have had it for over two years now, and never have to buy bags. You just empty it from the bottom and there is a 'scraper' to scrape the bag clean. I finally learned how to use the attachments, and it really makes couches and chairs look new and fresh. We had to buy a new belt, and i was cringing at thinking how much it would cost, but it was only $3.25!!! There...
read full review »My Kirby is a hand-me-down from my brother. I don't know how old it is, but by the looks of it (gray), it's several years old. Kirby is heavy -- no doubt -- but he is the best doggone vacuum cleaner! He sucks up everything!!! And I'm always satisfied with the results. :]
