Kirby Vacuum Cleaner Review Summary

The Kirby Vacuum Cleaner gets mostly good reviews from our Viewpoints members. Practical reviewers liked the fact that the Kirby has multiple functions, including cleaning, dusting and blowing. Says one reviewer “it can blow leaves out of the drive way or walk way…Great!” Our reviewers liked the warranty that is included, even though they were confident that the Kirby Vacuum was “built like a Sherman tank.” Viewpoints members who didn’t like the Kirby complained that it was extremely cumbersome and heavy and nearly impossible to use on stairs. A friend of mine bought one while living with him. It did great in the begining. But I soon found that as a everyday use it sucked. It weighed too much and switching to the attachments was a pain in the butt. Then of course having to change the bag really sucks. I hate bagged vacs and when you have… read full review »

Call me old-fashioned, but it drives me crazy how disposable everything is these days. The first "big" purchase my husband and I made once we got married was a Kirby vacuum cleaner. My husband had sold them in the past and knew the quality of this item. It was a pricey purchase for newlyweds but the dog hair in the house drove me crazy. I have had my Kirby for 20 years now and have only had to have it serviced one time to replace the rotating bar. I have heard people complain that Kirbys are heavy and hard to manage. They may be a little heavier than the cheap plastic counterparts but that's… read full review »

Okay, I am no one's little housewifey.  My home is a carefully balanced series of piles and stacks held together with cat hair.  But not so much cat hair as there might be, thanks to my Kirby 2000 vacuum cleaner.  My mom owned a Kirby, so I was familiar with their sturdiness and dependability.  I love mine from its extra long power cord to its detachable body--although it makes one of the larger, heavier hand-vacs around.  Although I don't use the carpet shampoo feature as much as I ought, given the little brown smears of cat puke across my carpets, I appreciate… read full review »

This is probably the worse vaccum  I have ever had.   It does not glide smoothly to chage parts is next to impossible.   The sales person was rude but I thought this was a good product.   Over $1000 down the drain what a waste for a single mother who pinches pennies just to get by.   Would love my old Kenmore… read full review »

I bought a Kirby 10 years ago after recarpeting my House and seeing a demonstration. It's no hype they are the best. — They are expensive no doubt but after paid for you have a sweeper for life and your carpeting looks as new as the day you bought it, as in my case 10 years later. — Mine is 10 years young and is as amazing as the day I bought it. It can shampoo the carpets, although I tend not to like or use that feature except for maybe a quickie on a spill occassionally. It cam with the hose and tools, paint sprayer, sander, you name, and she can do it. — Although, they… read full review »

I bought a Diamond G Kirby Vacuum a little over 3 years ago. Since it was so expensive, I wanted a good comperhensive waranty. The Salesman told us the vacuum had a life-time waranty on all the parts except the wooden brush in the head and the inner bags. So when the cord cracked, I pulled out the waranty to find out how to get the cord replaced. I began reading and found out that the vacuum only had a 3 year limited waranty, which expired 2 months ago. In several places the waranty states that there is no other waranty. So a new cord would cost me $40! I was very angry… read full review »

While it has alot of bells and whistles, I don't feel that it does any better of a job than my cheap, bagless upright.  In some cases, I think my bagless does a better job, and it is lighter, easier to get around, and has onboard attatchments.  The Kirby does a good job, but tends to be heavy, has an extra caddy to lug around for attatchments, is sometimes difficult to change heads ~ for the rug cleaner, and is way expensive!!! and that is not even counting the cost of replacement bags and belts!!!  I know you can make payments, but overall a vacuum that costs over $1,000 is a… read full review »

Kirby Vacuum Cleaner: — By far the BEST vacuum I hve ever used.  It does everything except scrub the toilet.  Attachments for every household cleaning task you can think of.  — I have a Tri-Star vacuum, and though it was the greatest think since peanut butter, but after I vacuumed with the Tri-Star and then went over it again with the Kirby, I was amazed!  I could believe how much the Tri-Star had left behind. — The newer versions must have been created by women.  The attachements are very user friendly, off and on in a snap.  The new hoses are… read full review »

Oh how I love my Kirby vacuum! My mother had a brand new one and I was so impressed with how smoothly it glided that I had to have my own. I couldn't begin to afford a new one so I bought an old G3. It was an eye sore and had obviously been used a LOT. It still worked really good though and three years later when the drive was going out on it I won an auction and got a Kirby G5. I love this vacuum. I have four dogs and three cats, all indoor pets and I needed a heavy duty vacuum after several department store vacuums had died in less than a year of owning them. The Kirby can handle just about… read full review »

I have the diamond edition Kirby and I love it. I don't even sweep anymore... I Kirby even my kitchen. With all of it's attachments I can reach every nook and cranny. I can even shampoo my carpet and furniture when it starts to look a little shabby. It's true that it's a little heavy to lug around, but to me that just translates into power and a machine with substance. The only thing I'm not crazy about is using it on my stairs. And since I don't like carrying it from upstairs to downstairs, I'm thinking of buying a second one... one for each level. They are very pricey, but they last… read full review »

Kirby makes an outstanding vacuum cleaner. I have owned the sentra for over a year now and love it. I love the way it cleans hardwood floors. The boards are so smooth on your bare feet. I also have the shampooer and waxer attatchments. I have used the waxer to wax a local convient store floor. I have shampooed several carpets along with 2 mini vans and its tough on the pet hair. The attachments are easily changed around and the vacuum even has a portable handle so you can use as a hand held. I have recieved excellent service from kirby. the only drawbacks is the weight and the price. Although… read full review »

I think the Kirby is great.  I needed something with multi uses.  Vacuuming, carpet cleaning, dusting and blowing.  What more could someone want?  Attach the right parts and go! I can even clean the ceiling where it's hard to get all of those dust bunnies.  Even electronic equipment with the special attachment which does not cause the equipment to malfunction. It can blow leaves out of the drive way or walk way...great!  The hepafilter bags help keep the dust in the bag area at nill.  It shampoos the carpets to lift mild stains and keep it looking… read full review »

— — — The kirby vacuum although very powerful, has a couple of setbacks that might make you think twice before purchasing. First of all it has two different power settings, D and N. At first glance and after several trials, the only difference is that one gear lets you go in reverse and the other does not. Second when it comes to attachments it is necessary to remove the entire front end of the cleaner in order to attach attachments. The cleaner itself is very bulky and takes a great deal of space to store.… read full review »

i currently own a kirby generation 3 vacuum. it is now about 12 years old and the second kirby i have owned. the first one was 25 years old when i traded it. nothing was wrong with that one except it wasn't self propeled ( very heavy). My mother had a kirby that was old when i was a child. this is one of the best machines for getting up anything that gets in your carpet. pet hair is no match for it (it could take it right off the dog). although pricey i would purchase this machine… read full review »
