This is a LIFETIME vacuum, but expensive and awkward.

    Good warranty, Heavy Duty, long lasting, can handle pet hair

    Pushy salesman, EXPENSIVE!, Too heavy, no onboard tools, Not portable

Kirby Vacuum Cleaner — 

We have had our Kirby a few years now and it is a sturdy vacuum. However, I wouldn't recommend it because it is very heavy to lift and to push around, awkward to tote and nearly impossible to use on stairs. Putting the hose on to use many of the tools is not easy to do either. 
I would suggest a Dirt Devil or Orrock instead.
