I bought a Diamond G Kirby Vacuum a little over 3 years ago. Since it was so expensive, I wanted a good comperhensive waranty. The Salesman told us the vacuum had a life-time waranty on all the parts except the wooden brush in the head and the inner bags. So when the cord cracked, I pulled out the waranty to find out how to get the cord replaced. I began reading and found out that the vacuum only had a 3 year limited waranty, which expired 2 months ago. In several places the waranty states that there is no other waranty. So a new cord would cost me $40! I was very angry at myself and the salesman. He had handed me a sealed envelope with the waranty and receipt inside. He told me to keep this in a safe place, but encouraged me not to open it until I needed it. I was angry at myself for not checking for the writing of what he was telling me. But Kirby has lost my business because the salesman lied. I recommend buying a good vacuum at Sears or something and expect to buy a new one in 5 years. You can buy 4 brand-new vacuums for the price of one Kirby that would have to last you 20 years.
The other issue I have with Kirby is that they are so hard to contact for parts. I tried to find a local distribution, but the number they gave me didn't work. I tried to go online and find a local store, but it says to "check local listings in the yellow pages" or call the national number. There is no e-mail, and no searchable list for a local store. On the whole the website was not very helpfull.
