My husband insisted we buy a Kirby Upright Vacuum when we got married "because Mom had one and they are the best".   I was impressed by the salesman's presentation and decided to buy one.  It did seem to have great suction but that was about all I can say about it.   It did not get close enough to the walls and edges without using an attachment.  It was too bulky to get under any furniture low to the ground.  The attachments were never readily available.  I live in a multilevel house and the attachments were always on the floor that the vacuum wasn't.  Vacuuming the stairs was a nightmare, even with the attachments.   The bags and belts were easy to buy at the local supermarket and sure were easy enough for myself to install.  I think the Kirby is a classic and is good as vacuums go,  but for the money, it was too expensive for my satisfaction.  I admit that I used it for ten years but when the opportunity arose, I chose something lightweight, with good suction, and with all attachments stored right on the vacuum, something that Kirby could not offer me.
