Kingsdown Body System Mattress —

To the Point

Our daughter and son-in-law had a queen sized Kingsdown Body System Bed in their apartment in New York City. I tried it for the required 15 minutes since we are in the market for a mattress. Fifteen minutes just isn't enough. They moved to a condo and put the queen in the guest room and bought a Kingsdown Body System in a king size. We recently spent a few nights with them on the queen sized bed.

A Closer View

Kingsdown uses a trademarked system called DormoDiagnostics which we are told will match me to the right bed for my body. The information the kids had said there was air space for added pressure relief and moisture balance.

I have read every article there is and Consumer Reports on buying a mattress. What I've learned is that there is no best mattress. It is such an individual feeling that I have never found anyone coming out with the best brand. The closest I have come is reading that if you are a belly or back sleeper you might want a firmer bed.

The Kingsdown Partner Perfect we slept on was the least firm that they make. When it was made it was called #1 on their scale. The numbers go from 1 to 4. It's important to note that they have changed their numbering system a bit. For example the kids bought a #2 which they were told corresponds to the previous #1 however they don't find that to be true. They like their older queen sized bed better and thought it to be more comfortable so be carefully when you buy this mattress when it comes to their numbers.

This mattress is about ten inches thick. At the time I found that amazing until I went looking at beds. They sure have changed in the last 20 years! My old one at home was about six inches thick. When I first put my body on this bed to go to sleep (Versus just testing it out with everyone watching!) I just sunk in like I was sleeping on down or in a cocoon. It was wonderful. Kingsdown has what they claim is an exclusive full coil system which conformed to my body and provided the spinal support I needed.

Their Kingsdown was really comfortable. I am a very light sleeper. When my husband got up in the middle of the night I didn't wake up.

I read reviews that said that after a few years the Kingsdown sagged. My kids had this one for about four years and there was no sagging.

Kingsdown gives a 20-year warranty. The retail was $3100 but Sleepy's negotiates. They bougth this for $2100.

Jo's Viewpoint

I like it but remember the mattress decision isn't an easy one because everyone's body conforms to mattresses differently.

Dear Jo,

We just bought a Kingsdown, and I am very nervous because it has some bad reviews online. Would you mind telling me what you thing of them now?

Ok sorry if this is confusing - Ok my daughter and son-in-law had a queen Kingsdown in their apartment. We never slept on it. Then they moved; put the queen in the guest room and bought a king Kingsdown for themselves. They love the bed. We have slept many times on the Kingsdown and chose not to buy it. We found it way to so and I have an autoimmune disease also. As fall as I know they bought a King sized so no one rolls into anyone else:) I sure hope this helps but please write back. You can write me at jobythebay@yahoo.com if you'd like. Jo

PS You might want to read Rudi's excellent review on buying a mattress. Tell him I sent you:)

Jo, we just tested a Kingsdown mattress in the store for the first time. My husband and I were totally sold on how good it felt to lay on it. I have a very bad back and fibromyalgia, so we came home to think about it, as we need a king and that size is expensive. We're comparing it to a latex pillow top by Simmons, which didn't feel quite as comfortable. We tried beds all day, but after a while it all gets so confusing. Then I read yours and also the most negative one on this site. I don't know if you said that you were sleeping on the guest bed by yourself, as the negative review mentioned rolling into each other all night and that the bed made his back worse. Now, I am more confused than ever! Help somebody? You did mention that your children bought another one, so that means two are sleeping on a Kingsdown, so how do they feel about rolling into each other. Thanks for your help,

Linda T.

A 20 yr warranty is really nice. Good to know that.
