King Arthur Flour Company —

The King Arthur Flour Company of White River Junction, VT, has been in business since 1790 and it shows!  The variety of top-notch merchandise available from their website (kingarthurflour.com/shop) or in The Baker's Catalogue is amazing.  Merchandise is a little costly but often not prohibitively so.  They are the purveyors of:

More than 20 different kinds of flour (including whole grains and also rice flours for people who cannot tolerate glutens) for every possible sort of baking ...

An amazing selection of flavorings, decorations, ingredients, gourmet kitchen utensils, and baking pans (including pans made of paper and even wood which are oven safe) ...

Dozens and dozens of mixes specifically designed to create special pastries and baked goods (such as the kit for Almond-Filled Sweet Bread pictured here which includes mixes for sweet bread, toasted almond filling and almond-flavored glaze).

K.A.F.Kids -- a group of mixes specifically designed for use by children who want to bake:  ABC Twists, Rainbow Snack Cake, Chocolate Chipper Muffins, Cowboy Oatmeal Muffins, Snickerdoodles and their own Pizza Crust plus baking utensils just for children.

A mouthwatering (and VERY expensive) selection of ready-to-enjoy baked goods and also specialty fruit spreads and other English tea items.

King Arthur's Gift Club

King Arthur even has their own version of the Gift of the Month plan whereby a lucky recipient who loves to bake would receive a gift of mixes each month.  This plan comes in 3-month, 6-month and "Baker's Dozen" formats wherein if you order a 12-month club plan an extra free month's gift is also sent.

MY VIEWPOINT:

Aside from the pleasure of their Company, it is downright reassuring to know that in this uncertain age someone has survived and thrived for more than 200 years just by caring enough to offer the very best to their customers!

I've never heard of King Arthur Flou but it sounds as if this company is similar to our Adluh Flour here. You can go into the company and take a tour of the mill, see the flour being made (several varieties and gluten free) and even buy products right off the shelf. I remember doing that on a field trip while in grammar school. Now I buy whatever flour is on sale when I need it! ~Gigi

I've often used King Arthur flour but I didn't know they had twenty different kinds and a gift club. I'll have to take a look at their website. Thanks for the interesting informative review, Anna.

You always have such interesting stuff (and so much homework for someone like me). Only time I bought King Arthur flour was when I had a bread machine and needed whole wheat flour. Trader Joe's had it. Sometimes my bread was eight inches tall. Sometimes it was three inches tall. When I discovered I was the only one eating it, I gave it to Goodwill. Now with the price of bread, I'm reminiscing about the "old days". Whatever size, the bread ALWAYS smelled good.

It was so nice to hear from you, Mary Jane! Usually I never hear from companies that I write about. You are really a distinguished organization and can't believe that I have only just heard of you! Have a great holiday season!

You just hang in there -- my prediction is those prices are going to go DOWN! I put off buying my much needed new sofa because I predict that they will almost be giving some of this stuff away by the end of the year. I'm sorry if that sounds callous or mean-hearted but prices had really gotten just too high. In my opinion, excessive greed is what our economy is really paying the price for and things will have to change before they get better. Don't worry too much about gifts this year -- I think a lot of people may have to cut back, I sure am myself. It was so nice to hear from you again and have a nice holiday season!

Great review AnnaBanana. I didn't know The King Arthur Flour Company had other products for sale let alone a website. Now is the season to start thinking about Christmas gifts, so I'm on the look-out. I kind of cringe at the thought of high prices in today's economy. But still, I'm looking forward to checking out their site. Thanks.
