Killz Primer Paint

This paint is actually spelled Kilz and is probably one of the best known and most used primer paint in the business. it comes in latex and Oil based varieties. I use this product usually on the exterior house trim after the prep of pressure washing, scraping etc. It really soaks in and give you a good base to paint over and the oil base works as a sealer but as in most oil based products, you will need mineral spirits for clean up. Quality It's an excellent product that I've been using for many years and will continue to use in the future. Durability I painted my house in Northern Nevada in 2001 and other than a few touch-ups, it's still looking good. Good primer and good paint make for great results that lasts a long time. Coverage This is a very thick and dense primer so it covers very well giving you a good base to paint over. Ease of Appliation it goes on the roller or brush quite easily and the latex version is simple to apply. The oil based is a bit more difficult but not bad other than the clean up.

Easily the best primer I have ever used

We were starting to get mold on our basement walls and someone had suggested using this primer to take care of the mold. We had spent many hours scraping and washing the walls but it did no good the mold would go away for a while but would always come back. Then we bought a gallon of this amazing primer after putting a couple of coats on the mold is gone and there is no trace of it anywhere in our basement. This Primer was a life saver and definitely worth every penny that we paid for it. Quality Does not chip spreads on nicely and covers in a minimal amount of coats. No doubt about it this is the best primer on the market. Durability This primer has been on my walls for quite some time and not only has the mold not grown through but the paint has not even thought about chipping. Coverage I did not have to put very many coats of paint on the wall and one gallon went a very long way. Ease of Appliation One of the easiest paints that I have ever put on my walls. the paint spread nicely and evenly and only needed two coats to cover the mold.

Best odor killer

We were replacing the flooring in one of our relatives homes that had been sorely mistreated with pet stains and other rank smells and in used Killz primer on the floor to eliminate any residual odors and cover the unsightly stains (even if they are not visible after the flooring was placed, who wants to encounter that again in the future!) We put down two coats of the Killz primer and it worked great. We probably could have gotten away with only one coat but we wanted to be extra conservative given the plethora of coodies involved. This product salvaged the floor and completely eliminated any evidence of the abuse this flooring had taken. We laid laminate flooring over the base and could not be happier. We are happy to visit and they are happy to have a healthier home. I would highly recommend this product to anyone who has the need to eliminate odors in their home. I wish we knew about this product when my brother bought a home from a heavy smoker because that would have saved us a lot of work just to paint over everything instead of the weeks cleaning brown walls that were once white.

Only primer worth using

When we bought our house it was definetly what you would consider a fixer up! There were water stains, grease stains from cooking and harsh dark paint colors on the walls. We used Killz and it worked great in every situations. The water stains were on our kitchen ceiling from the upstairs bathroom leaking and all we had to do was put one coat over it and paint the ceiling and it was good to go! We also had a leak in the upstairs office and Killz easily covered that stain and kept is covered. The grease around the stove area was a little bit harder to deal with. We cleaned it up really well and primed it but instead of the one coat that we used for the water stains we needed two coats. Not that big of a deal for the small area, just saying it does not one coat cover everything. We also used Killz for the outside of our house when we painted it. The final indoor challenge that we had for it was a dark maroon living room and bedroom. We only had to put one coat of the Killz on and it was ready for the new colors. The living room went from dark maroon to a nice bright light tan in no time at all. We also used it on the outside of the house. The house was a mess when we started but the primer covered it quickly and easily and provided a good base for the top coat. It still looks great today. It is the only primer that we will use! The only downside to this product is that the smell is very very strong. So if you are sensitive to scents I would recommend a greener primer.

The Best!

I have used this primer all over my house. On the walls, on the ceiling, in the bathroom, outside on railings. I even used it on my patio floor for a few months until I had a chance to paint it. Even with all the walking and mud and water it never peeled off or cracked and after a wash it looked like I had painted it that day before. This stuff is great! I do wish it covered a little better(those darn water stains on the old ceiling) but it is better than all of the primers I have used before. If you have a darker area such as a water spot then you will need to apply 3-4 coats to get good coverage so the stain doesn't show through youur main color. For most surfaces it does the job just fine and it is surprising how tough this stuff is consdering what I have put it through! The Killz brand is one I trust and I will continue to use their primer because it just works. It's also very reasonably priced!

no point in getting any other brand primer

We have completely remodeled our house (the previous owner had smoked in the house and all the walls and ceilings had a brown tarry film that looked and smelled terrible) and have used this primer in all the rooms.  We learned the hard way that there is no substitution for Killz Primer paint.  One room we didn't use a primer in at all and had to paint it 3 times & it still never looked right, the cigarette tar kept oozing out from behind it.  Another, we used some cheap brand and after 2 layers you could still see the ugly gray under it and the cigarette tar again oozed out from behind it (it being a bathroom, it occurred everytime you would take a shower).  Finally, we just decided to buy a huge container of Killz and reprimed all the rooms.  One layer was all it took.  Then, paint went on smooth and only took 2 coats (the second was to be extra sure we got it smooth on).  My husband used it to paint over a water stain on one of the ceilings and it covered it easily.  It covered up all the old cigarette stains on the ceilings.  It even worked easily on knots on the wood molding we put up.
