Kids.gov is a web portal that contains links to government and other kids' sites that are educational and fun for the Kindergarten-to-8th grade set. The first link that caught my eye was the CIA Games page that takes you to the Central Intelligence Agency website. Once there, children can attempt to decode and analyze a challenge through the online game. Another interesting link is the FBI Kids and Youth page where youngsters can get information about a special junior agent program at the Federal Bureau of Investigation's website.
Not into stealth and intrigue? Don't feel left out because Kids.gov has links to other interesting topics, such as
Food & Nutrition - BAM (Centers for Disease Control) - recipes and games for healthy snacks
Sewage in Your Face! (City of San Diego) - a comedic exploration of wastewater treatment,
Everyday Mysteries (Library of Congress) - fun science facts
Art Zone (National Gallery of Art) - interactive, online art
NGA Kids (National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency) - connect the dots and make a map
and much, much more.
In addition to all of the fun, there are links that will help your child with homework and classroom lessons. Kids.gov connects children to websites packed with information about individual States, U.S. Presidents, Social Studies, Math, Science, Environment, Space, Careers, Animals, Laws, and more.
Highly educational and entertaining, Kids.gov is the official government portal for kids, parents, and educators. You'll want to bookmark this site because I guarantee you and your child will want to return to its pages again.
