I bought my 2003 Kia Rio in October of 2002 from the dealer with only 7 miles on it.  It's been 5 years now and I'm at 70,000 miles and I've only had 2 problems with the car; the AC belt blew @ around 30,000 miles (everything, including towing, was taken care of by the Kia warranty) and the alternator went out at just over 60,000 miles (no longer covered under bumper-to-bumper).  It's been in 3 pretty major accidents that resulted in no injuries and car remained driveable after each one.  The gas mileage is superb!  I drove all the way from Detroit to Wilmington, NC on less than $50 and that was going up and down in the mountains!  I have blown out 4 tires and one rim so they are pretty flimsy in that department but Kia offers 24-hour roadside assistance so it was always taken care of, and pretty quickly, too.  I doubt there is a more reliable car in this price range and I intend on buying another Kia Rio when this one dies.
