Great for color but makes me itchy and flaky

4

I was so excited to try this shampoo after so many good things I read about it. After about a couple of weeks I noticed my scalp was really itchy. After the next couple of weeks my whole head was so red and itchy I couldn't stand it. I also noticed that my entire scalp was flaking. It looked like I was snowing. I stopped using it and within a couple of days the itching, flaking and redness completely went away. I was so bummed because I color my hair red and red is so hard to keep from fading. Kenra color maintenance shampoo and conditioner was the best I have ever used to prolong my hair color. I get my hair colored every 6 weeks. I hardly had any fading so I actually prolonged my visit another couple of weeks before getting it colored again. I had to stop using this product because the itching and flaking was unbearable. I gave it a 10 for effectiveness because it really works for color treated hair to stop fading, but had to give it an overall 7 because it caused itching and redness on my scalp.

I was a bit disappointed in this shampoo

I am usually a fan of Kenra products, but I have to say this one isn't one of my favorites. I do like that it hold the color very well until the next color service, and you only have to use a small amount for it to lather up nicely. I do not like that it didn't make my hair feel as clean as it normally would, and I felt like it was too heavy for my hair. I have fine hair and I always make sure to wash it all out to avoid any buildup. I even tried to use this with minimal conditioner to be sure it was the shampoo that was causing the lifeless hair. I do think that this would work better for people with thicker hair, but it was just too heavy for my fine hair. Effectiveness It worked well to create a nice lather, but not in making my hair feel as clean as it should be. I wasn't as impressed with this product as I have been with other Kenra products. Scent This product does smell wonderful and always leaves a nice scent behind.

Kenra Color Maintenance Shampoo is a ten!

5

Mad a sylist of ten years, I have tried many lines of product and I am so very picky about them. There are very few lines like Kenra that I like most of the products in. I like nearly all of their shampoos, conditioners, and products. That being said, this is my favorite by far in the shampoos and conditioners. It really maintains the color well in between color services! I also love that it takes so little of the product (dime size for medium length hair, obviously varying some depending on your hair length and thickness). It really takes very little, so one bottle lasts a long time! Also, I have previously used this for weeks straight, and my hair did not get "tired" of it like most would cause it to do, becoming limp or not styling correctly. It's very impressive shampoo! It also holds red color in much longer, which is impressive as reds are the quickest to fade. Effectiveness I feel like it makes my hair nice and clean without drying it out. It's always shiny and soft when I use this. Scent It has a light scent, that feels fresh and clean!

Love the Kenra line

5

As a hair stylist, the Kenra line of products is among my favorites for home use and salon use. The color maintenance shampoo specifically is one of my absolute favorites. It has a luxurious lather that cleans well and leaves hair feeling and smelling fresh and clean without drying it out. It is a gentle that is also ph balanced in order to protect color treated hair. This is a necessity in order to preserve expensive color treatments. Effectiveness I rated this product a ten for effectiveness simply because it does exactly what it is designed to do. To get hair clean without stripping it of color and leaves hair soft, clean and silky feeling. All my clients love this shampoo and I've never had any complaints from it. Scent I personally love the scent of the Kenra shampoos and conditioners. This one in particular smells like that of gardenia and citrus. Perhaps maybe that is just how my nose smells it.

Great shampoo for colored hair

5

I have tried a lot of different Kenra products, so felt good about trying the shampoo even though it was a little more expensive than the shampoo I normally buy. I have to be careful about the shampoos I use, because the color I have put in my hair is red, which tends to fade more quickly than other colors. But, the Kenra color maintenance shampoo was gentle enough to use every day without causing my color to fade. I also coupled it with the conditioner and the results were great. Overall, aside from the slightly high price tag, I'd recommend this shampoo if your hair is color-treated. Effectiveness It didn't take much shampoo to work up a lather, and I only had to wash it once when using this shampoo. It left my hair feeling and looking clean, even if I went a day or two between washings. Scent I like the scent of this shampoo. It's not overpowering and doesn't last, but is pleasant while you're washing your hair.

Ok, but not for me.

After hearing from coworkers at a salon where I used to work as receptionist that Kenra was a really good product, I found a bottle of Kenra Color Maintenance Shampoo on sale at ULTA. I had recently colored my hair. The first few weeks of using it was good. My color stayed fresh and glossy as expected. However, as time went on, I noticed I was starting to lose a lot of my hair, more than usual. I haven't had chemo and I don't have a thyroid problem or anything like that. I don't know if the hair loss was related to the shampoo or something else, but when I switched back to my old shampoo I noticed I was still losing more hair than usual, but not quite as much. I don't blame the Kenra for my bout of hair loss, but it certainly didn't help a great deal. My hair is long and fine and I think perhaps Kenra shampoo was a bit too weighty for it, so maybe that's why it happened. I would recommend it to people with normal to thick hair. For me, it just was not the best choice of shampoo. Effectiveness It maintains chemically colored hair as it should while still cleaning it well. I wouldn't recommend it for deep cleaning or very fine hair like mine. Scent Nothing to write home about. It smells like shampoo with chemicals in it. It doesn't smell bad though.

KENRA gets a Perfect 10!

KENRA is an amazing salon brand; its shampoo is no exception. KENRA's Color Maintenance Shampoo is worth every penny as it maintains my salon color from each visit to the next, even if it I can't afford to go in for a color for up to 3 months!!! I keep short hair so I don't require much shampoo on each wash, but regardless, the last time I purchased KENRA Col Main. Shampoo was over 4 months ago! - It's high quality and a little bit goes a long way so you really get your money's worth. OF COURSE because it's true salon-quality, it is completely sulfate free allowing it to be very moiturizing. If you're interested in purchasing any KENRA products, you'll have to shop in a salon, order online or from a salon, visit your local product warehouse (if you are a licensed hairdresser) or ask a friend to shop the warehoise if you know a licensed hairdresser or cosmotolegist. All KENRA products smell amazing and yes, I would (and do) recommend them to anyone.
