Kenmore Elite Washers - Great until rear bearing breaks!

Fantastic washer until your rear bearing goes out.  $700 to fix, so most repair people say get a new one.  My service tech saw 3 this month on the Kenmore Elites.    I own all Kenmore appliances, but not anymore.  What a crap design on the rear bearing, the entire tub mechanism needs to come out with approx 300-400 in parts.  I can fix a lot of things and it tees me off I have to buy a new washer after 4 years.

I was informed today that my 6 year old Kenmore Elite is staining clothes due to oil leaking from the rear bearing. Did you experience similar side effects or did the washer just quit working?

We just had the same problem on our washer that is only 7 years old! $550 in parts alone! So frustrating!
