Kenmore Washer - Front Load HE5T  —

I researched this product for awhile before I bought it.  I really wanted the Kenmore HE2t when it came out, but couldn't afford it at the time.  Boy, am I glad I waited!  Apparently there were alot of problems with that model, and many redesigns were made before this one was released.  I actually bought the HE5t steam, and it has a newly designed door handle on it.  (The model at Sears was broken and I specifically asked about that.)

I had been using a GE washer from Sears that I bought 11 years ago.  It still works, but I had problems washing my bedding in it.  When I got married, we received several comforters for our queen size bed-the first time I washed them in my old machine they got torn in the washer.  I was upset about that and swore I'd never buy another washer with an agitator in it.  I do not have that problem with this machine.  There is nothing for the clothes to get tangled around or caught on.

There are several other features that are wonderful about this washer.  It has its own hot water heater so you can wash clothes and shower at the same time without running out of hot water.  That's part of what makes this machine so energy efficient.  It uses less water too-it determines how much water to use by the amount of clothes you put in it.  You cannot use a Downy ball in this washer, but the dispenser does a much better job of distributing the softener to your clothes at just the right time.  My clothes smell so clean now, and I'm using the same brands of detergents.  The only difference is that you have to buy detergent specifically for HE washers.  I use Tide anyway, so I just have to make sure I choose the correct one at the store.  Tide even offers the HE soap with Febreze in it.

Another nice feature is the sanitizing cycle.  If you have children or pets, this is great!  I have washed so many soiled sheets and thought I'd never get them to smell clean.  The sanitizing cycle solves that problem.  Even my dogs' blankets smell good again!

I can't say enough about how much I love this washer!  It is a very expensive set to buy, but they are often on sale.  I don't regret how much I spent on it, because I know if I had settled for a cheaper set, I'd still be longing for these.  The designer colors make for a pleasing laundry area.  We all have to do laundry, so why not make it as pleasant as possible?  No more chipping my nails reaching into the machine, and no more bending over to shove stuff into the dryer!  I didn't buy the matching pedestals-instead I opted for the matching tower with drawers.  It holds all my detergents and has a nifty rod that pops out to hang clothes on.  My husband built me a huge pedestal to put all 3 pieces on and it works great!  The washer is quiet; it doesn't rock while it spins the clothes, and the clothes are near dry when they come out.  It all makes for a shorter drying time-and saves you more money!

Does your dryer have the steam cycle, too? I really liked the steam feature, but I'm wondering if I can get away with only buying the dryer with steam and getting a less expensive washer, what are your thoughts? Thank You!
