Kenmore Washer - Front Load HE2 Plus Review Summary

Viewpoints reviewers are split over the Kenmore washer. For some, it’s a great way to save money since the front load washer uses less detergent and water. Customers also like the big loads it can handle and efficient spin cycles, which cuts down on dryer time. The Kenmore HE2 is also easy to use and comes with an instructional DVD. On the flip side, other reviewers have found this front loader leaks, vibrates and accumulates mold. And, several have given it low ratings for poor customer service and continually breaking. Looks like the verdict is still out on the Kenmore washer. Want to keep shopping? Read more reviews on washing machines

I've seen a lot of negative reviews on this washer. People have complained about mold issues, leaking water from the locked door, and the control board acting crazy. (all within a couple of months of ownership) I personally have had my washer for well over 9 months, and have never had a problem with... read full review »

Where to start...You can put a lot of clothes in this washer which is nice.  It said a king sized comforter would fit, but my daughters full size barely fits (it is thick though).  It's energy efficient..how I don't know as my washer takes well over an hour to wash a load unless I'm doing express wash... read full review »

This washer was one of the first appliances my husband and I bought as a married couple. It was a dream for the first 10 months and then it began throwing up 5d error messages. It used to lock my clothes in the washer, stop mid cycle and always has a rancid smell!! I'm so discouraged with this machine. From a year on it was basically not usable. The Sears hotline wanted nothing to do with me, except buy a service plan for $300 dollars!? We finally figured out what was wrong with it through a complaint blog. Apparently the draining system can get clogged. It's an easy fix. You take the bottom panel... read full review »

I purchased this washer 8 months ago.  It has always leaked a bit, and vibrated and walked all around the laundry room.   Three weeks ago, the "boot", the seal inside the door, failed.  Clothes inside the washer were torn in the process and the floor was flooded as all the water poured out.  I dealt with Sears warranty repair departments for 2 weeks before contacting the store manager where I purchased the washer.  Things have only gotten worse. Their is no concern on his part, nor on the part of the repair departments, nor the cutomer relations departments.  I am looking at several more... read full review »

I bought this machine for Kenmore's reputation as well as it's large capacity.  I have four teenagers and a husband.  I do a lot of laundry.  I did have a king size capacity top loader washer prior and was looking for the same capacity.  It does have a good capacity size for our family.  It does wash the clothes good, spins the water out good, and uses less water than your convention machine.  The only thing is this machine typically uses high efficiency detergent which is a bit more expensive, but you obviously use less and these detergents are limited as well. I have used regular type... read full review »

This front loading washing machine works good but not up to my standards.  My clothes don't seem to smell as clean as they have in the past with my top loading washers.  I also learned that you have to keep on cleaning the glass and the rubber seal where the water sits in.  If you don't it will leave black marks on your clothes.  I don't care for the front loaders because of all the maintaining I have to do to it.  I am busy with 3 little ones, it is hard to clean the soap dispensers monthly and hard to always dry out the glass and rubber seal.

This product has broken down 5 times since we bought it little less than 3 years ago.  Besides it keep breaking down it takes Sears a week or more to come out and fix it.  My advice is go with a different brand of front loading washer and don't buy appliances from Sears.

MISTAKE MISTAKE MISTAKE. Here we are 1-1/2 months out of our two year warranty and the washer is completely crapping out. A 28 minute cycle takes about 1.5 hours. A 1 hour cycle takes over 2 hours. The washer is constantly freezing up once it reaches the spin cycle and eventually just shuts down with the door frozen in lock position. We have to unplug the washer, start a new cycle and cancel it in order to override the lock in order to even get at the clothes, which are a sopping wet, 20 pound pile of detergent and water that can't even be put in the dryer. It's amazing that all of this is happening...

The machine started getting loud on the spin cycle about 3 months before it completely stopped working.  Sears repairman came out and stated bearing was bad and it would be $900 to fix a machine I paid $670 for.  Three years should not be a lifespan for a machine in that price range.   Sears basically said nothing they can do about it except offer me 5% off on a new appliance in their store.

My old commercial MayTag sprang a leak at the main tub seal and needed a new tub bearing -- $125 in parts alone.  A friend raved about the efficiency of a front-loader, Consumer Reports corroborated that notion, and Kenmore rated high from efficiency, repair record, and overall cost standpoints.  My salesperson (Preston Miller at Sears at the Lakeland Mall in Lakeland Florida) was knowledgeable, helpful, friendly, and helped with some installation clues.  Installation was a challenge because the power cord got hungup on the drive motor, so I had to take the back off to free the cord before I... read full review »

I paid $850 three years ago for a Kenmore HE2 washing machine because I was concerned about the environment and wanted to use less water and power.  It's going to sit in a land fill after only two good years of use.  Never move one.  You have to put pins in the back to keep it together.  I've spent a couple months trying to get it fixed.  Sears did not even show up to repair it like they said they would.  I had another repair tech come out and replace almost every part and it still shorts out and does not work.  Mold also grows inside so you have to leave the door open when not in use. ...

Kenmore HE2 Plus Front Load Washer is a great washer.  It's large capacity allows me to easily wash my Queen comforter.  Front load saves water and detergent!  Final spin dries clothes so that they need less time in the dryer.  I bought the matching dryer and have it stacked on top of the washer.  The only negatives are that at high spin the washer shakes and pops the door open on the dryer (think I just need to level it better) and you cannot leave items in washer overnight - moldy/musty smell (I run the clean washer cycle with bleach to remove the smell).

I just got it hooked up today and did my first load of laundry... This machine took my entire standard clothesbasket in one load! (2 maybe three loads with my old standard units) It took about an hour to finish but the clothes come out so dry the dryer only needs about 15 minutes... so its just like the reverse of my old standard washer and dryer. I really like it so far.

If you buy this machine, you will have to buy the Master Protection Agreement to keep it in repair.  My main problem is that the machine's vobration is so intense it cracks the plastic in the door.  I have to call and have the door repaired every 3 months. Since I invested so much in the machine, I hate to just get rid of it and start over.  My suggestion - look around for a more reliable brand.

I have only had one Kenmore set before this current set and it lasted for 20 years.  The Kenmore HE2 Plus saves time, money, water, detergent and electricity!  My energy bill basically dropped off the planet.  I was quite pleased with the energy savings.  This washer when used properly gives excellent results.  Remember: DO NOT OVERLOAD THE  WASHER. The washer is fantastic, easy to use and I really like the end of cycle signal and the last cycle for cleaning the washer.  I had done this in the past by using the lowest water level for my old top loader and adding bleach, but this one is...
