Our dryer died, and I could tell the washer was fading on the dryer's heels. We'd been married 11 years, and I wanted a matching set for a change. I spent weeks shopping around and comparing. I wanted a front load set because at that point we did anywhere from 10 to 15 loads a week. I found a set at the local Sears Outlet store, and the two machines together there cost less than JUST the washing machine elsewhere. Within the first month of getting my Kenmore front loaders, I saw a slight reduction in the number of loads being run due to the larger capacity. The following month, I saw a savings on my utility bills. Total laundry time isn't much different than my old top load washer and the dryer. The difference is that the washer takes longer. I used to rerun the spin cycle in my top loader in an attempt to shorten drying time. This machine removes the need for that with the high speed spin option. The machine is easy enough to use, that my kids (6, 14, 15) do their own laundry. I also use regular detergent and much much much less per load.

I see numerous comments about moisture and odor in the washing machine on several forums and sites. My friends in Europe told me to make sure I left the door open to allow the washer to ventilate, and to wipe the gasket and window every once in a while. In all honesty it takes just a couple seconds to do while I load the machine, and then I toss the cleaning rag in with my other towels. I've also used vinegar to clean the gasket (bleach degrades the gasket) if it was left too long untended. Soap and water work wonderfully to clean it.
