I got my last Kenmore washing machine from a family member who bought it new in the 1980's and I had it for another four years before it finally gave out so I knew I wanted another Kenmore!  The Kenmore 500 was reasonably priced - $399.99 at regular price but Sears always has sales going on so I got mine for $299.99 and there was a rebate for free delivery and installation.  I've had this machine for four months and have been very happy with the performance - it has a large capacity for a top-load washer and my clothes always come out clean.  The wash and rinse cycles are relatively quiet, although there is some shaking during the spin cycle - still, it's quiet enough that the noise isn't disturbing if the laundry room door is closed.  It has five load size settings, four water temperature settings, and the option of one or two rinses per load, plus settings for normal heavy-duty, and delicate washes.  In addition, as opposed to a front-load washer, I don't have to buy special detergent - anything on sale works in my machine.  So far, I'm very pleased with the Kenmore 500 washing machine and expect to be for a long time to come!
