Kenmore toaster lever malfunction.

Kenmore Toaster - 4 Slice — 

I received this kenmore toaster from my daughter for Christmas. I only used it a couple of times and the catch that holds the toast down on the left side of toaster , stopped working.  The only way to get it to work is to stand there and hold the lever down myself.
