Kenmore Sewing Machine - 15358 Review Summary

If you’re just getting into sewing, consider the Kenmore Sewing Machine. However, if you’re a seasoned sewer, you might want to move on. Our reviewers agree that Kenmore is a great brand, but this sewing machine is better suited for the average user.

I am not a seamstress, I begged my husband for this sewing machine so that I could complete some crafting projects. This machine is perfect for the beginner, the manual was easy to read and understand and within minutes I was sewing happily away. I have also been inspired to create a baby quilt. I love... review »

The bobbin gets stuck way too often and has to be taken off and completly redone.  I have tried using my own, my mothers, and my grandmothers and we have all had the same problem.  The bobbin still gets stuck.  We have tried using different brands of thread, different thicknesses of fabric, etc. ... review »

While the name Kenmore implies a good product, I did not find this one to live up to it's name.  The motor quit within two years.  While it could be replaced, it would have cost more to have this done than to just go out and purchase a new machine.  I often had difficulty with the thread bunching up when doing other stitch patterns aside from just a straight stitch.

I think it is o.k. for a beginner like my children but has a habit of the thread knotting up and you can't go too fast. I personally would not have chosen this for myself. It is not like the older singer sewing machines. It knots up alot but if you go really slow and if the project is not too detailed, then it might be ok. You also have to be very careful about the types of materials you use because the needles have a tendency to break. Lots of mess and has limited capabilities. Also, you have to restring the thread alot because it tends to unstring itself if you go too fast.

After wanting a sewing machine for a long time I finally received one this past Christmas!! I was so excited! I couldn't wait to get to the fabric store! I thought I wouldn't be able to figure the machine out, but sometimes I just amaze myself! After a few hours of stitching and restitching, I got it down. I'm not perfect by any means, but the owners manual is simple to understand and the machine is very simple to operate. The only problem I have had is the thread not wanting to stay put through the needle but I'm sure this is something I am doing wrong. I would recommend this sewing machine to...

I am not a very experienced sewer but have used several different brands and models. The kenmore sewing machines hold up just as well as more expensive machines. The options are easy to use and manuel makes it very easy for the beginner. I have used the sewing machine mainly for crafting and scarpbooking. The sewing machine handels various types of materials well: lace, ribbion, multi layers of paper, different thickness of craft paper, card stock, fleece material, satins and cotton.

The Kenmore 15358 Sewing machine is easy to set up and get started with. It is basic enough for beginners but has...

I enjoyed using the Kenmore 15358 sewing machine. I knew Kenmore is known for their appliances, I had heard every little about their sewing machines. I am impressed. This machine has all the basics and a little more. It's very easy to use and understand. I think switching stitches is a snap. I have been able to teach novice sewers on the machine with little difficulty. Loading the bobbin is easy. Threading the machine is easy, the machine talks you through each step.It is great for every day sewing with regular weight material. I would not use it for sewing heavy weight material, like denim, on... review »

I found this sewing machine to be great for the average customer, and by that I mean someone who doesn't use the machine everyday for high volume products. Kenmore is a quality manufacturer, and it shows in the sewing machine. The one problem I had was that when I did start using it more often, the motor died on me. Otherwise, I found it easy to use and, more importantly, easy to change the thread, bobbin, etc., unlike other sewing machines I've known.

This machine was a gift to me and I use it quite a lot. I mend, sew garments and do some crafting and quilting. I love that mine is portable and I can store it easily. It sews nicely and I don't have problems with it skipping or tangling thread. It is easy to fill the bobbins and rethreading is easy but the eyes on the needles could be a little larger--I'm getting older!

This sewing machine is simple to operate. It is nothing I would purchase again. I would however recommend it to novice users. I am going to give it to a relative and purchase another brand with more features. I am a little more experience in sewing and would enjoy having more features to experiment with. I am pricing other top quality machines at the current time.

this is the second machine that i bought And I use it for pretty much any of my sewing needs. I mostly make home items. so I don't use the decorative stitches to much but they do work very nicely. the Only thing I have not used this machine for is to monogram anything. Though it says that you can.I just don't think that I could stay staight enough to do any letters.

The Kenmore 15358 is a reliable, inexpensive mechanical sewing machine, say reviewers. It's purely a mechanical machine, meaning there are no computers or electronics. That means it doesn't sew quite as precisely or predictably as a more expensive electronically controlled machine, but many sewers prefer the simplicity of a mechanical sewing machine. Compared with something like the Brother CS6000i (*est. $180), the Kenmore 15358 lacks the variety of stitches and functions (for example, the Brother CS6000i has seven types of buttonholes to the Kenmore's one). Still, for beginning sewers and those...
