Kenmore Progressive Upright Vacuum Review Summary

Reviewers see the Kenmore Progressive Upright Vacuum as "the best vacuum on the market, with the best price." One reviewer used to sell vacuums and considers the Kenmore Progressive Upright to be "better than the Dysons." Consumer Reports had also rated this upright #1. Despite these grand reviews, Kenmore isn't the highest priced vacuum out there, but also isn't cheapest. Reviewers enjoy the HEPA filtering feature, as well as the Intelliclean mode that "turns up the power higher in areas where a sensor detects more dirt." The long cord means you can vacuum almost an entire floor of the house without having to replug in a different outlet. Everyone is in agreement that "this vacuum really sucks – in a good way!"

I used to work at Sears in the vaccum department and I know the good ones from the bad.  This is a great vacuum.  As long as you don't mind changing the filter/bag it is as good if not better than the Dysons.  It has all the toys and gadgets one needs with enough power to get a good clean job done. ...

I purchased this vacuum after reviewing Consumer Reports...I believe this model was tied for #1 with a different brand.  It wasn't the cheapest model out there, but it also wasn't incredibly costly and it's built to last.  I love its HEPA filtering feature.  And the Intelliclean mode turns up the power higher in areas where a sensor detects more dirt.  It makes it easy to tell when the rug is clean.

The long cord provided is wonderful.  I can vacuum almost my entire downstairs without having the change outlets!  My only gripe is that they don't make autoretracting cords for upright vacuums. ...

I've had my Kenmore Upright vaccuum for a little over 6 years.I've tried all of the "Dirt-Devils" and 1 Kirby and 1 rainbow, but this vaccuum has been my favorite, because it's the best on the market for me.It wasn't cheap, but compared to Kirby,Dysart and Rainbow,it's a lot better value for the buck.

It has a very strong motor, but is very quiet for a 12.0 horsepower.I was surprised at it's suction strength. You have to pick up items like toys and coins out of the carpet, otherwise it picks them up for you.It will even vaccuum up nickels, that's extreme power for you.Mine is over 6 years old and...

Hands down, this vacuum is amazing. We absolutely love the dirt sensor that tells us how much dirt its pulling out of the carpets. When we were looking for a new vac we saw that Consumer Reports rates this a #1 best buy and we are so glad we bought it -- we couldn't believe how bad our old vac was until we plugged this guy in!

The best feature, hands down, is the intelli-sense cleaning mode that adjusts the speed of the vac depending on how dirty the carpets are.  You may THINK you have cleaned the carpets, but you would be surprised at how much dirt is hiding down in the fibers.  This guy works...

Excellent vacuum with all the needed attachments to thoroughly clean pet hair and tracked in dirt! The Intelli-Clean indicator does a great job of letting you know when your carpets are actually clean. I also love that this vacuum does not use belts. I was always breaking the belts on my previous vacuums. Comes with bare/wood floor attachment and an extra extension wand. Very good vacuum for the money. Highly recommended!

I too did a lot of research before I bought this vacuum.  I love it!  The dirt indicator light comes in very handy.  I love the fact that it works well on both carpet and hardwood floors.  Once I bought the Kenmore Progressive Upright-- my husband even started vacuuming!  Now that's saying ALOT!!!

My housekeeper LOVES this Kenmore Progressive. It's too heavy for me, but that's because I have bad arthirtis. She is tiny and has no trouble with it. She told me "It's a winner, Miss Janet!"

I have the kenmore progressive bag vacuum. Everyone said to get a canister vacuum but I have had them and would rather this one. I don't like that I can only find the bags at sears but I have never had a problem when I go to get them. They are always in stock. I use it everyday and sometimes several times a day. It picks up and sucks and anything and everything. There is a little filter under the bag that I take outside and whack the dust out of to make sure it doesn't get clogged or anything. The cord is perfectly long enough to reach all the way up the step and into another room from downstairs....

Love my Kenmore Progressive vacuum! It's top-rated, and I agree with that rating. It cleans all types of surfaces, unlike my old vacuum that only cleaned carpet, not delicate rugs or wood floors.   It's filter is great at keeping the dust out of the air, too.

Canister type vacuum with easy to empty canister. Cleans as well as much more expensive units. Really does well with pet hair. My carpet hasn't been this clean in a long time.

I absolutely hate this vacuum cleaner, and am so sorry I spent the money!

First of all, it is so stinking heavy it's not even funny.  Both my 15 year old son and myself have both almost tripped trying to lug this thing up the stairs.  It is ridiculous.  Being an ex-Oreck owner, I miss my Oreck so much it's not even funny (unfortunately, I lost it to my husband in the divorce - and yes, we actually fought over the Oreck!).

Second, it does a terrible job adjusting to higher-pile rugs, versus medium, versus floors.  The switch does not work properly, and because it doesn't change correctly,...

I have had my Kenmore Progressive for about 10 years and love it.  I have never had a problem with it.  It picks up dirt well from carpet as well as hardwood floors.  I really love the attachments.  The hose can detach and become a handheld wand with great reach.  I have the extra long hose  attachment so I can reach lots of area without moving the  vacuum itself.  All attachments except the extra long hose fits on the vacuum itself.  I guess it is nice that there is the HEPA filter, but I don't appreciate the cost of replacing the filter.  The filter and the bags are easy to change. ...

Overloadswitch went bad on the kenmore  36832 so I had to take out 18 screws and pry apart 3 plastic parts to get at it. While doing this nothing hold the guts together and the main motor is plastic taped together, no screws or bold just black plastic tape.

The try to get this POS back together. I remember taking apart my hoover and the solid construction always impressed me

My wife got taken in by the kenmore bells and whistles. $300 buck and its broke in less than a year.

I bought this vacum a few years ago.  This was my first purcahse as my parents always bought my vaccums for Christmas.  I spent a lot of time in Sears using all of the vaccums and I think the sales person thought I was a freak.  I finally settled on this vaccum.  I now have 2 cats and a dog and what a difference.  It picks up the hair and the carpet looks great.  The only caution is make sure you get the cannister in secure, otherwise the suction stinks.
