Kenmore Microwave Oven - Toast N Wave —

Intro
It was really a weird decision process that led me to this Kenmore Toast/Wave. With the redesign of our kitchen, the designer at Home Depot came up with a very unique plan. I was looking to create a pantry out of an existing closet by opening it up on a different side. Through a variety of things, she came up with a design of putting a cabinet on the bottom and another on the top, and building an alcove for a microwave in the middle.  While reconstructing the room, the carpenter took down the size of the old closet to gain some much-needed space that had been left unused in the design and made it more linear. I knew my old white Sharp microwave wouldn't fit cosmetically, so I searched for a black microwave that would fit in the new alcove. For the measurements, and to use the space the best, I came up with the Kenmore Toast/Wave and loved the thought of it, so I had to buy it.

The Features
The best feature of the Kenmore Toast/Wave is of course that it's not just a microwave, but also a toaster, and it doesn't toast inside the microwave, but has an actual toaster attached at the end of the unit. It's in the place where the microwave controls would be, so they have been moved to a line across the top of the unit, along with the controls for the toaster. The toaster is a 2-slicer and not only has big enough slots for bagels, it also has a separate function, bagel or toast. And, there's a convenient pull-out tray to catch, and later, dump your crumbs.

As for the microwave itself, it's roomy, but not enough for my 8 x 12 pan. I had an ancient microwave that was huge, and now without that, every microwave seems small. As for the functions of the microwave, it has the most basic, like auto defrost, and a few quick buttons such as popcorn, potato, vegetable, but it doesn't have the plethora of functions I had on my Sharp microwave, the one with the only negative aspect being that it was white. However, I rarely used those other functions. Let's get real. When microwaves first came out people made everything in them, because they could, but somethings are just better on the stovetop or in the oven, and microwaves are now used to reheat or cook simple things. More often than not, I'm just putting something in for a certain amount of time anyway.

Conclusion

The size isn't as great as it was supposed to be, as I can't open the door if it's shoved all the way into the alcove, so it has to hang out just a tad, but that's not the worst thing in the world. As far as cooking features, it handles everyone I need it to for, both the toaster and the microwave. Most importantly, it's black like the other appliances.
