Plastic smell then shooting fire balls after 14 yrs

3

From the start the oven took forever to preheat. Oven door came apart many times, handle would unscrew and door layers separated. Surface areas hard to clean spills well. Burners have not been heating properly past couple years. This week we couldn't figure out a burning plastic smell in kitchen, and last night while oven was on, fireballs began shooting out the back; thankful the electric circuit tripped and only scorched wall and wood floor.

Discontinued for a REASON!

2

I can easily understand WHY this oven has been discontinued. While grateful to have an oven, I hate this oven!!! I WANT MY OLD OVEN BACK!!! Cookies don't bake the same in it. The oven racks have to be continually moved to this or that setting depending upon what you're baking. Just figured out that it bakes 40 degrees lower than what it says. 1 Squash took 2 hours to bake at 375 Degrees, so knew something was wrong. According to the manual - it says NOT to use an oven thermometer because they can be off by 25-30 degrees. I beg to differ, it's THIS OVEN THAT IS OFF! If I were rich I would kick this thing to the curb & get myself a "real oven." One that works!!! Who has to re-calibrate a NEW oven to make sure you have the correct temperature? Why would this NOT be done at the factory before selling them? How idiotic! This is not a piano that needs tuning, it's an oven. The temperature should be CORRECT, ON TARGET or at least CLOSE. Not even! I LOVE baking, or I DID until this oven entered my home. Guess there's only 1 element in it & the air circulates but it's not a convection oven. Noticed NOTHING seems to crisp up nice like in a regular oven. If you don't have a glass top - I would never recommend it, they look streaky, smeary no matter how many times you clean it. The littlest drop of water boils over & you have to use a daggone razor blade (supposedly) to remove it. How convenient is that? Wish there was a return policy because I'd send it packing. You can't have any pan on the left back burner if baking, - that throws the oven off, as it's where it vents, another design flaw. CAN I RETURN THIS? I'd have to pay the fee for hauling it away, would be worth it to have a DECENT OVEN. The only thing it has going for it is the stove top; the burners work at least. There are too many if's, ands & buts with it & the temperature is waaaaay off the mark. How I wish my husband had walked on by from the SALE sign & never entertained the idea of buying it. Sales person saw my husband coming I guess. Worse oven owned. Unable to recommend - then again don't need to because it's DISCONTINUED. Can we return this now??? Temperature Control Ovens should be sold ONLY with the temperature that is at least close to the correct one indicated on the dial. Heat Distribution 40 Degrees off the mark - Really? Why would you even sell an oven to someone that is THAT far off the correct temperature? Durability Haven't owned it long enough to comment on this - Design Can't have a pan on the LEFT back burner if baking because that's where the oven vents & apparently it throws it off. The oven IS already OFF without that design flaw in my opinion. Angry that this is the oven I got stuck with (didn't select it myself). Air circulation - huh! How about the CORRECT temperature to begin with. I like things to CRISP UP in an oven, they don't in this. Embarrassing sending out soggy cookies that LOOK done but when you let them sit until cool, there's no crisp texture, soft n' soggy. Ease of Cleaning Whoever invented the glass top, forget it. PIB is, it's not convenient at all to clean or make it look nice without all the streaks & smears a regular oven doesn't get. And I DIDN'T need a stupid razor blade to clean off a regular top oven.

Good Stove, Nice Looking

4

I got this stove over 5 years ago. I must mention that I do not cook everyday so it does not get heavy use. Overall I am very happy with it. I like that it has the no burner coil cook top. Its very sleek looking. Temperature Control The buttons on the control panel are easy to use to control the heat of the oven. The knobs control the heat of the cook top. It is very easy. Mine has a warming burner which I have used a few times. Heat Distribution It cooks nicely. The items I use it for arent really complex or anything great. I am a light duty cook and for my purposes it is great. Durability I got this range over 5 years ago and it has lasted. Like I already said though, I am not an everyday cook. It gets light use. In 5 years I have only had 1 minor issue with it and the issue resolved itself which was great. Design I have the stainless steel range. It looks very nice, especially with the black cook top. Ease of Cleaning The cook top is very easy to clean. Sometimes if you have burnt food or any burnt stuff on it, it takes a little more scrubbing to get out. You can buy special cleaner to clean to top and it will almost come out as new. It is easy, it just takes some time.

Very Useful

4

This is my first time owning an electric range, and I am very pleased with it. I like that the sizes of the eyes are different to match the sizes of different pots and pans this allows me to use as much or as little energy as I need. The eyes do an excellent job of heating, in fact, I often have to turn the eyes to a lower heat setting than the recipe calls for. Once I got used to this, I quit burning the food. A small issue that I have is in cleaning off the range, the cleaner that came with it does not seem to do a very thorough job. This stove has been put to the durability test, when my dad accidentally started a fire in the oven. the only lasting "scar" the oven has is a burnt light bulb. The size is great, because as a baker, I need room to cook multiple dishes at once. The broiler on the oven heats up promptly and works very well. The fact that the oven has lights to warn myself and the others that the range is still hot even after the eye has been turned off is great. I loke the storage room underneath the oven is great for storing pots and pans. I hated storing them inside of the old oven. Temperature Control The temperature control on the oven is great. Heat Distribution The distribution is good, but as I said earlier, when using the range, I have to turn mine lower than what the recipe calls for or else my food will burn. Durability My oven has endured a lot including a fire, and still works as if it had not. Design This oven looks very modern. Ease of Cleaning Cleaningon and around the burners has proven a difficult task for me.

Another nice appliance from Kenmore

5

I spend a lot of time in my kitchen. I love cooking and baking and I need a range that is going to be efficient and easy to work with. For nearly 15 years, we had had a Kenmore Range that was used daily for both stovetop and oven purposes. After a long canning session one of the burners fried and we decided that it was going to be more cost-effective to just buy a new one. So we went with a Kenmore again and had thus far, not been disappointed. This time around my stove has a convection feature. That, alone, made it worth the price we paid. I love that it shaves time off of baking and helps things to bake more evenly. I also love the self-cleaning feature. It works great and is truly effortless. I will say that it seems like my burners take longer to fully reach "high" enough to get a pot of water boiling, in comparison to our previous range. But I just adjust my cooking accordingly in prepartion for that extra couple of minutes. Overall, I would recommend this range to anyone who wants an efficient appliance in their kitchen!

Kenmore Electric Range 790

4

This is a simple electric range stove. It gets used daily in my house! I find it simple to use, fairly easy to clean, and I like it's simple design. I like the high/low broil options this stove has. My old one didn't have that so I always ended up overcooking what I was cooking. The timer is also a plus if you can be forgetful like me! Cleaning this stove is fairly easy. If you spill something it's so easy to wipe off. However I always end up having a harder time cleaning the burner sections off. It seems no matter what I try or how hard I try I have to clean it 2-3 times before I can get the dark rings off the burners. I find that the stove top cleaner they sell for this kind of stove works best if I let it sit for a lengthy time period. My one complaint other than that is the fact my one burner takes forever to heat up correctly unlike the other 3 burners. I'm really not sure if that is an easy or inexpensive fix. Overall though this is a good stove and not bad at all for the price!

I love my Kenmore 790.9743 Electric Range

5

I've had my Kenmore Electric Range for a year now and love it. The glass top features a turbo boil element, a six inch and nine inch dual element and a warm and ready zone radiant element. Cleaning the glass top is very easy and the special cleaner provided at our purchase keeps the surface fresh and shiny. The burner element controls are knobs but the oven controls are touch pad. The oven is a delight as the lower heating elements are covered allowing easy clean up on the flat bottom surface. I also like the convection fan feature in the oven. Although this oven isn't a true convection oven, the fan circulates the heat evenly allowing me to bake on two levels successfully. Additional features on the touch pad include a Recipe Recall button and Air Guard that helps eliminate fish or other strong odors during the baking process. So far I haven't had to use the self cleaning feature since the oven is easily wiped down. I also like the fact that the drawer under the oven is sturdy.

High End ECONOMY Model - All You Need"

5

This is one of the lower mid-priced electric ranges by Kenmore, but it has all you need in terms of function with a few small extras as follows: One of the surface radiant elements is extra large, to accomodate an over-sized pan (i.e. a lobster pot or big dutch cookpot), but it's also a **dual radiant element**, so you can flip a switch to set the smaller inner portion to accomodate a regular sized pot or pan. There is a radiant element with a **TURBO BOIL** feature, which has a higher wattage for boiling water or to fast-cook.   This element works great!   It boiled a large pot of water for paste that I put on in just a couple of minutes, much faster than a standard electric cooktop.  There is a **warmer zone **to keep hot foods warm, great if you are cooking multiple courses and need to keep something warm and ready.  There are no exposed heating elements in the oven, which makes for easy wipe ups when using the self-cleaning feature.   If you make lots of pies and other things that have a tendency to drip, this is very important.   In other ovens, I've had, no matter how much you try to keep those elements clean, spill-overs end up creating that awful "burn off" odor in subsequent uses.   This  will easily eliminate that problem.  Speaking of odors, this oven comes with a terrific **AirGuard** feature which is a catalytic oven exhaust that removes smoke and eliminates nearly all of the odors generated from oven usage.   You can keep it turned off when you are baking those delicious cookies or pies that generate lovely smells throughout the house, or turn it off when you are cooking some much less appealing, such as fish or onion based dishes.     AirGuard also turns on automatically during a self-cleaning cycle. The only drawback to this model is that the warming element is small and closer to the back of the stove, so it's difficult to place a large pot on it.   You can still use it on a big pot, but you will not be able to use anything but small pots in the back if you do so, or visa versa - if you use medium sized pots on the regular burners, it will be difficult to place a medium or large pot on the warmer element without crowding...BUT... This stove is definitely a great price, and lives up to the Kenmore name, with lots of nice features for anybody who does a great deal of regular cooking and wants a few extras to make life more convenient in the kitchen.   High recommend!

Stovetop very easy to clean...

4

I think I use my stovetop more than I actually use the inside of my stove. I have to say that most stoves are pretty hard to clean the burners because stuff drops down inside and its just a mess. I love having a glasstop because it is super easy to just wipe if crumbs are on there but when you do get stuff crusted or burned on there all you have to do is take a razor blade and scrape it off and it looks like brand new! It is best to use the cleaner that they suggest to help loosen any stains or mess but you don't have to use much and it doesn't cost too much. I will say that the burners seem to take a little while to heat up sometimes but I'm sure that is because it takes a little longer to get the stovetop at an even temparature. I do like all the different burners I have--there is one for simmering, one that is a double burner and you can choose to use one or both, a couple small ones and one for just keeping things warm. I also like the different setting for the inside of the stove--having a convection oven as well as just regular baking. And it seems to heat up quite quickly.

Kenmore Ceramic Cooktop/ Oven is one hot appliance!

5

Kenmore's Glasstop Cooktop/ Oven is a fantastic appliance! I really enjoy using it for everyday cooking.  It heats up quickly and keeps my pots and pans at a stable temperature. I favor the front right burner because it has a small and larger disk for various sized pans. It also heats up faster than the other burners. I use the large burner on the front left for slow simmering pots of soup of boiling water because of the handy simmer selection. I love the hold and heat burner in that middle rear to keep food warm. The oven is fantastic! I use it often to cook baked goods etc... It heats up quickly and holds a steady temperature.  I have enjoyed the self cleaning oven.  I do appreciate that the coils are hidden underneath the base plate but don't make the same foolish mistake as I by putting foil on the bottom to catch spills.  You will end up with a fused foil mess! I know silly of me...had to replace the base plate.  Overall, it is very simple to clean and care for... I highly recommend this product!
