Kenmore Elite Trio —

I purchased a Kenmore Elite Trio refrigerator (model 795.7725)in December 2006. On Saturday, February 7, 2009, I opened my refrigerator door and noticed that the plastic casing around the light bulb was melted and sagging, the fridge was warm and the items on the top shelf were also starting to melt. My husband and I determined that the light bulbs were not shutting off when the doors were closed. After finally removing the light bulbs with an oven mitt we discovered that the area around the light bulbs were brown from the excessive heat. I'm thankful that I was home that day because I truly believe that my fridge and house could have caught fire.

After doing an internet search, I found that this is a common problem with the model however Sears is doing very little to help. I made calls to the service department, warranty department and recall department and was informed that I could pay for this fix because it hasn't been recalled and it was out of warranty. I politely declined. I then called OneSource and they apologized for my inconvenience and offered me $150 towards the labor and $100 towards parts. This will cover part of the repair but it is reported online that it will cost well over $500 to repair this issue. I think Sears should cover the cost fully and recall these dangerous products.

Today I experienced the exact same scenario. We have gotten the run around. I was told it was a recalled circuit board and then something else. I declined repair to the tune of $500 but the tech still left us with a $75 charge for coming out. Of c ourse I will not pay that either but what does Sears care, they will report it to the credit board. We files a report with the state and went to collaborate with our attorney. This is such a horrific safety issue and we are horrified that Sears has not addressed this appropriately.

Katy's experience unfortunately substantiates my months of research! I like the look and features of the Kenmore trio better than any I've considered, BUT five different independent repairmen have warned me to run from this frig because it is manufactured by LG (the Sears salesman verified this) and apparently LG is a repairman's nightmare. In addition I've had my own problems with Sears repair service. Years ago you dealt with your local store for service; now you have to go through a national call center. Their customer service will ruin them!
