My family had a matched pair of Kenmore Heavy Duty 70 Series which last 20+ years and still running fine (besides the dryer's solenoid had to be replaced that cost me 15.00) - My wife finally got tired of same old top loaders so she decided to toss out the old trusty machines and settle with these flashy and new look front loaders - I went on-line and did some research; although reading horrible story (which included this one) but based on our previous good experience with Kenmore products (we own Kenmore freezers too) we went on and bought the smaller model Kenmore Elite H3 dryer (along with the Elite H5t washer) since the local Sears only carried the H5 steam dryer. Upon delivery, the first one and had similar problem the same night - we called in and had the replacement delivered. Still experienced the same problem - door upper part has to be pushed to latch to get it to run. From my observation, the dryer bowed door was not poperly aligned when mold was created at the factory, subsequently, majority products of this line of Elite models would suffer the same defects. Moreover, the thing is brandnew but is quite noisy when the drum rolls over the seam line, a loud thump could be heard. This is unacceptable for a dryer in the 700+ price range - Kenmore has to do something drastic or may end up losing its fan base (this was true with Ford ever since my family switched to Honda after enduring the ownership of 2 Fords)!
