The Kenmore Elite Trio is a very innovative refrigerator for us.

Practical, Mr. Fix-it

Kenmore Elite Refrigerator —

It took us almost 2 hours to review the various features and benefits of the many refrigerators offered for sale to us in the Sears Collin Creek store. We finally decided on the Kenmore Elite Trio (78764). The primary reasons that this one was our choice were that it is a "french door" model that was available in Bisque (Almond for us old folks) and has the ice maker in the door of the top section (very uncommon in french door units). It also has LED lighting (VERY efficient and no heat), flexible shelving and efficient use of space. We are replacing a Whirlpool side-by-side that we bought new in 1979 when we moved into our (last, hopefully) home; this old dog was extremely reliable and a good friend for all these 29½ years. It had a special door on the back of the refrigerator door that would allow you to get to the shelves without opening the main door, a VERY handy feature that is no longer available in anything we considered. The Kenmore Trio seems to be made by LG (Korea), which was a big concern for me, as I prefer American-made products strongly. I hope that Sears will stand behind products on which they have placed their name. So far (4 days), the Trio has done everything that it should and we are very pleased with it; it is VERY quiet and looks great in our kitchen, exacty matching our other almond appliances. The french-door design requires us to re-think where we place various items and we are doing well with that. Our only concerns would be that the ice & water dispenser area is too short for tall glasses or pitchers and the switch for the dispenser is at the very back of the area, causing some spillage. Also, we have not worked out where to place tall drink bottles (2 liter soft drinks, mainly); there is only one shelf in the main refrigeration area that can accomodate tall items without re-arranging the shelves; also, there is no shelf in either of the doors that it tall enough without removing one of the shelves altogether. We love the LED lighting!! It is so white and looks really high-tech; the automatic night light feature is really handy for safety in the kitchen area at night and makes it really easy to see what you are doing when getting a glass of water late at night. We are hoping that this 29-year update will save a lot of electricity so that we can help pay for the refrigerator out of the savings in the electric bill.
