Great for beginners and experienced sewers alike!

A few years ago my grandmother who has always been a die hard Singer sewing machine fan broke down and bought two of these, one I received as a gift and one that she kept for herself. I am not as experienced as her when it comes to sewing but know my way around with a needle and some thread. I have hemmed many a hems and sewed many a quilt top, pillow and fixed countless other things with my Kenmore sewing machine. Its held up to denim, canvas and silk. Has been accidently knocked off the table top and survived. Despite a couple bumps and bruises it still looks and works just like it did when I took it out of the box. I probably only pull it out of the closet once or twice a month but, but when I do its used for a couple days at a time. Its a great little machine. I definitely cant speak for everyday users, but for someone who wants a good sewing machine for every once and awhile use I would urge you to check this sewing machine out. Stitch Performance The stitching is done beautifully and strong each time. Ease of Use It was very easy to learn to use and is very easy to use. Fabric Handling Does a good job with various types of fabric including but not limited to satin, canvas, denim and cotton. Versatility Its pretty versatile. Handles varying projects and types of fabric easily.

Great sewing machine!

Bought this machine back in 2004 as a replacement to an older, 80's model Kenmore. This little gal is still trucking! I prefer her to my 1960's Singer machine. The drop-in bobbin and threading is very easy and instructive. She is also very easy to clean out and supports many attachments and lowering the feed dogs for quilting. I've sewed denim, many quilt layers, etc. and had no issues [as long as I was using the proper needle]. Very great machine! Stitch Performance Like all machines, make sure you have the correct tensions set for your material. The upper tension is very easy to change. As long as the presser foot is down and your tension is set correctly - no problems with stitches - even after 6+ years! Fabric Handling If you are sewing too close to the edge, it will get dragged down, so I wish the bobbin hole was smaller to prevent this from happening. Versatility A good number of stitches for a beginner to start with.

l.o.v.e. my Kenmore sewing machine

I have been sewing for about 10 years.  Shortly after I got married, my husband decided that we should invest in a sewing machine for me because I was making lots of Christmas gifts, baby gifts, etc. but was always having to borrow my sister's machine.  We didn't really have a lot of money to spend so we shopped around and I asked several ladies about their machines, and in the end we bought this Kenmore sewing machine and I thought, "It'll last me for a couple of years and then maybe I can up-grade to something nicer."  I have since had and returned several "nicer" machines!  This little baby does all that I've ever asked her to do!  I have done everything from making twin size quilts to replacing buttons on this small machine.  It is simple enough in design to make it easy to learn for a beginner but has enough stitching options to make it useful to a veteran.  Unless you are looking for an embroidery-style machine, this one or a Kenmore like it should do the job for a great price!

Great machine for everyday sewing.

I had been using my grandmother's Kenmore sewing machine from the 80's that did just the basic stitch and finally decided to invest in a newer machine that could do a little bit more than just the basic.  My mother, who is a professional seamstress, helped me pick the Kenmore Sewing Machine with 90 stitch Functions.  It is a great choice for anyone from beginner to moderate sewing level.  It has enough stitch functions to be able to do any mending and clothes making you need to do.  I love how easy it is to use the machine.  It's very easy to thread the machine and it even marks the path the thread needs to go to make sure you thread it right.  The bobbin is easy to thread as well and there is a design on the bobbin cover to make sure it's in right.  I love how easy it is to wind the bobbin.  You just pop out the turn-wheel on the side of the machine and thread it correclty and it's ready to wind.

I own an online store selling goods that I have sewn.  I sew every day of the week for many hours a day.  I bought this Kenmore sewing machine almost 2 years ago and with daily use it still works perfectly.  I sew through thick fabrics and it handles it perfectly.  I does sometimes tend to eat very thin stretchy fabric such as knits if I am not careful but I have found that with other machines as well.  I have cleaned out my machine of fluff by totally taking it apart but I also love how the needle plate comes off and the bobbin casing can come out easily for quick fluff clean-ups with every bobbin change.  It winds bobbins easily and does a good job.  I love how easy it is to thread and how easily everything on it adjusts.  This is my second Kenmore machine and even my other one still works perfectly and is now my back-up machine.  I know that Kenmore used to be made by Janome and I'm not sure if that is still true or not.

a good machine at a good price....to start with

I have had my sewing machine for about 11 years.  I am not by far a professional but like to make my 4 daughters clothes, like to mend torn clothes, do some quilting, and make clothes for american girl dolls.  This machine was bought in the middle to lower price range compared to the comprables around them.  It has a lot of different stitches and a GREAT buttonwholer.  It was very easy to figure out how to work my sewing machine.  I like that there is a measuring area in the front on the bottom, like the buttonwholer, the ease of use, the price was good, have never had to have it serviced.  HOWEVER I have not used this machine in about 4 to 6 months and got it out last week to mend a pair of pajamas and noticed that the silver thing that guides the needle up and down is knocking against the top part and is in need of some adjusting.  I often clean out the bobbin case, and in the door from dust, but have never oiled the machine.  I do look forward to getting my machine serviced sometime soon so that I can make some christmas gifts with it.  I think if you are just doing basic sewing and not a lot this is a great beginner machine.  I can definatally see myself going for something a little nicer and maybe a embroidery machine.  I wold definatally stick with the kenmore brand.

great for beginners

When i first got this sewing machine it was a christmas gift from my mom and i was a sophomore in highschool. This sewing machine is a great beginners sewing machine because it makes everything plain and simple like what is the recommended length and width for a stich and sewing button holes is pretty easy. Also unlike other sewing machines which assume that your already an expert and don't have extra tips when it comes to changing the tension when using different types of fabric.Even threading a bobbin is super easy unlike other machines which you end up tangaling up the whole string before you even start threading the bobbin. The only but i had with this machine was that after a while it would start heating up and wouldn't sew right the tread would just form a ball in the bobbin. Then slowly it wouldn't sew right well straight it would start sewing the straight line crocked even after fixing the tension and all that fun stuff. So i took it to get fixed. but that was it untill it finally just died on me because it handle all the sewing :( but I loved that machine since it was my first
