I switched to this vacuum after owning a Dyson Canister vac. I'm sooo glad I did. This is an excellent vacuum. As of this review (05.23.08) I've owned it for approximately 4 months.
I haven't had any problems whatsoever. The Dyson I had was of course bagless, so going back to a bagged vac concerned me a bit, but suprisingly the bag is very large and I can fill it with about twice as much as what the Dyson would hold. I have 4 dogs, all very large or giant (one is a Great Dane) and a messy parrot. So there is a lot of dog hair and tossed seed that needs to be vacuumed up. The Dyson when using the power carpet attchment on the bare floor would spit the seed/loose dirt back towards my feet. I have all bare floors and several rugs, so I don't like having to turn on/turn off the power head, I'd rather just keep it on. The Kenmore does not spit anything back at my feet, sucks it all up just great!
One thing I do miss on the Dyson, that the Kenmore does not have is the extremely nice swivel and pivot action of the power head.
Attachments: Dyson all but the bare floor attachment was on board, which was a pain to have to go get the bare floor attachment. Kenmore ALL of the tools are on board and the power head can be switched to bare floor on the hand control.
Having all of the controls/power adjustment on the Kenmore handle is extremely nice.
Power Cord: Dyson EXTREMELY short, I had to move it to three different plugs to get my great room/kitchen done and the room is only about 30x40 and the plugs are well placed. The Kenmore has PLENTY of cord. I can do the whole room from one plug.
The Kenmore also has a wonderful "belt reset" button so when I get too close to the curtains and the power head sucks them in I don't burn up the belt as it'll stop on a dime. Then I just have to hit the reset button and away I go. (I'm a habitual belt burner!)
The Kenmore also has a lighted wand. So when you're crawling around on the floor getting under the furniture and you are using one of the non-power tools, you still have a light you can see with (that's sometimes a bad thing if there's scary things under there!). The wand also has a stand lock so that when the vac is not in use and the power head is attached it'll stand up, making it store nicely.
2 other nice features are the Dirt Indicator and the Power Indicator (indicates when your bag is ready to be changed and/or there is something blocking the wand/hose)
I am a Sears employee, but this review is a completely independent, unbiased and unsolicited assessment of my own personal experience with this product. Employee or not I would highly recommend this vacuum to anyone.
I hope this review was helpful!
