To the Point

I make a delicious chicken dish. I'll leave the recipe below. It requires stuffing mix. I usually buy Pepperidge Farm but this time I mistakenly tried Kellogg's Stuffing Mix. This is a 6 ounce bag which costs in the $3.50 range.

A Closer View

Kellogg's Stuffing mix is said to be seasoned with five savory herbs. The first five ingredients are enriched flour, riboflavin, yeast, salt and partially hydrogenated soybean oil. (Ok I was in a hurry).

I do understand that most people would stuff a turkey with Kellogg's Stuffing Mix but we are told that it can be used as a salad topping or in soups. This Stuffing Mix is crouton-like so I can understand it being used in a salad or soup but not for stuffing or for my recipe.

One cup has 120 calories and only 1 gram of fat. It has 1 gram of sugar. These nutrition facts are as is not as the prepared stuffing mix recipe that is provided.

The Taste

My dish is so delicious that even with Kellogg's Stuffing Mix it wasn't ruined. It just wasn't as good as usual. In fact my husband even noted the difference. I'm used to small pieces of stuffing mix - not bread crumbs - that's a whole different product. I like to sprinkle the Stuffing Mix on the top of my dish but the way Kellogg's comes is in cubes. So I had what looked like croutons or squares of crispy bread on top of my chicken. It didn't taste bad. I could sort of taste herbs but I was so disappointed in the consistency! What saved it was that this dish is just so good.

Used as a stuffing you'll get the same cubes. In fact there is a picture on the package showing the stuffing which takes 10 minutes and serves 1 to 4 people and it looks just like what mine looked like.

My Chicken Recipe (I don't know where it originated.)

You'll have to play around with the amounts since I don't have a written down recipe.

4 skinless chicken breasts in a glass baking dish. Place 1 pound (or less) of whatever kind of cheese you like. I buy sliced Swiss. Then on top of this mix a can of cream of mushroom soup with a ½ can of water and spread it on top of the cheese. Over this goes the stuffing mix. I cover the whole dish with the stuffing mix because if it's good it melts together with the cheese and that alone is yummy. Bake at 350 covered for 1 hour; you can then uncover it for 10 minutes to brown the stuffing mike.

I've never seen this brand of stuffing here in NJ--at least I am not missing anything good! :)

I use stove top often too, but can use just about anything. this sounds like even the little ones would eat it. I taste a salad as a side.

I thing anything would work as long as it is more crumb like:) Jo

My mother swears by Pepperidge Farms stuffing mix. I do like the sound of the recipe. TheBard makes a similar dish but it doesn't have the stuffing on top. :)

What a delicious sounding recipe! I wonder if Stove Top would work?
