There are some brands that have reputations for producing quality foods. Kashi is one of those companies—and deservedly so. I’ve had several of their products, and each has been quite tasty.
When I saw their Red Curry Chicken during a quick shopping trip yesterday, I decided that I should try it. The “zesty Thai style red curry sauce” sounded rather promising, and the vegetables included in the dish (sweet potato, red peppers, bok choy, bamboo shoots and kale) are all amongst my favorites.
My first bite of chicken, swiped during the necessary mid-cooking stirring break, confirmed that I had made a good choice. The sauce had a nice kick to it without it being overpowering; it really did deserve the label of “zesty.” The vegetables tasted as they should, rather than tasting mushy and unappealing as is sometimes the case with frozen dinners. The chicken was tender and delicious.
Not only was the meal delicious, it also was reasonably healthy. It boasted 6% of the recommended allowance of calcium, 15% of the needed iron, 20% for the Vitamin C and 18 grams of protein. For being a frozen dinner, the sodium content wasn’t bad; 470 mg (20% of the recommended allowance) is fairly reasonable number for a complete meal, and it is a complete meal. I found the dinner to be rather filling; the protein and fiber (5 grams) made the curry to be a nicely satisfying meal.
After finishing this delicious meal, I can easily say that I would recommend this. It is flavorful, fairly healthy and reasonably priced (around $4). I also can say that I look forward to having the chance to try some of Kashi’s other frozen dinners. I suspect most, if not all, will prove just as delicious as this one.
