Good school for the price

I started taking courses at Kaplan when I was a senior in high school to try to get a jump on my college career as I knew I would have to put myself through college. I was impressed initially by how easy it was to be accepted and to register for my classes. I had a few issues with the financial aid office as I have detailed below but otherwise I enjoyed my class experiences. The professors were very understanding of the students having lives and were able to accommodate everyone well. For example, when I was having finals in school and a paper was due that same week, my professors gave me an extra few days to complete it as they new I needed the time. The online chat rooms for students in my classes hinted at professors accommodating busy work schedules for other students. I enjoyed the experience and would recommend Kaplan to other people seeking either an Associates Degree, anyone who wanted to take a few classes to brush up on some topics that they may have forgotten since high school, or anyone needing a few core classes to graduate from their own college. I had a little trouble transferring my Kaplan credits to the college I ended up graduating from as they typically did not accept credits from this school but I was able to petition the college and they ultimately awarded them. Class Selection I did not feel the class selection was as diverse as I hoped it would be. The electives were poor but I used Kaplan mainly to fulfill some core classes that were necessary for me to graduate and they were cheaper than paying full price at the college I attended. Teaching Quality A lot of the teachers are intelligent but without the classroom setting it can be hard to communicate problems that I may have had and receive a timely response. The teachers are however very dedicated to the students which is sometimes rare in an online environment. Financial Aid I submitted all of my information to the financial aid office on time and did not hear anything back from the financial aid office. I called and emailed and left several messages which seemed to get me no where. After about 2 weeks of consistent calling I was able to reach someone and they said that I was eligible for financial aid but they did not tell me it was a loan. The way it was worded by the financial aid representative was that it was a scholarship. I waited for the paperwork and when I received it, that is when I discovered it was a loan. I would have sought out funding else where if I knew that this would be all I was eligible for. Accreditation The school is accredited however it is hard transferring credits from this school to other colleges. If you have a different college in mind and just want to take your core classes here to save money make sure that you check with that college to see if they will accept credits from Kaplan.

Never have any issues and I couldnt ask for better professors

I would NEVER recommend Kaplan to ANYONE! They messed up my financial aid 3 times, when it finally got fixed I moved onto a new school. They REFUSED to report to the government that deals with the loans that I was no longer going to school. I had to put off half a year till my loan period was over because of this. Something that could have been handled with a phone call in a matter of minutes. I was told ITS NOT THEIR PROBLEM. ..... Ask to talk with a supervisor and they will tell you NO! OUTRAGEOUS! I had to make a scene on their Facebook page to get someone to take my issue a step further and by the time I was contacted by someone, my loan period was over and I didn't need them to call Sallie Mae any longer. Their financial aid department is a JOKE, UNPROFESSIONAL, and RUDE!! Get some employees who know how to treat their customers!!!! YES WE AS STUDENTS ARE YOUR CUSTOMERS!!!

When deciding if you want to go to a online university you should consider that there are certain programs you are going to need on your computer. You will have to make sure you have interenet access at all times and you should always check the accreditation of the school. There are some people still out there that don't honor student from an online school, so I  would say be prepared to have to keep yourself motivated. I personally am taking courses at Kaplan University and I have family and friends that try to discourage me about getting a degree online. I'm doing good. getting good grades and navigating though the Kaplan system with ease.

my sister was a stdent of Kaplan online classes, i want to start off by saying, just because she had bad experiences doesn't mean this isn't for some people. she could not get any financial assistance form the school or her work, and we are in a family where we make less tthan 20,000 a year combined. but there where other good aspects such as, doing your homework at your own pace and not having over crowned classrooms, or any classrooms at all. ha ha.

Kaplan is the best decision I have ever made

5

Kaplan University is the best decision I have ever made. I started my Bachelors degree in January and I couldnt be more happy. My professors are available viaAOL instant messanger 3 times a week, there is a virtual classroom every week for me to talk to my classmates and professor, and the courses are not too long. So far I have a 3.85, I never did too well on campus because I wasnt able to communicate with my professor and I was too shy to ask questions in class. At Kaplan I have more support than I could ever ask for. I love the fact that they are not an open enrollment school, for once I am not in class with a bunch of fools. When I attended University of Phoenix, I felt like noone in my class belonged in college, they just sold everyone into enrolling. Price is about the same as any other online school I looked into but they send you your books for free! I had no problem getting financial aid and I even had someone walk me through filling out my FAFSA. I would recommend Kaplan to anyone, when I finish I will be returning for my Master's! Send me a message if you want to speak with my Advisor, I stay in touch with him to this day!

I did not like my experience

2

I am starting school in January and I was looking for a school. I spoke with several school, but this one was not at all what I want in a school. They called several time a day tring to get in touch with me. Then when we were talking the whole time I could hear someone in the background telling her everything to say. I personally don't find that professional at all. I felt more like I was talking to 2 salesmen rather than someone interested in helping me better my self. Then she would ask the question and kinda try to answer it for me or direct you in the direction you were not interested in. I finally told them I enrolled elseware to get them to stop calling. I will be sticking to local face to face from now on.

I am a Kaplan University Student

I have always wanted to get my degree, and Kaplan University has helped me to get there.  Class sizes are small, many choices of degrees to chose from, and the materials are shipped right away to you.  Patience with them is definately needed, as you might have to call 20 times or email your financial aid officer and academics advisor.   My education is worth getting on their tails about things an making sure they do the right thing!

Kaplan is a downer

1

I researched Kaplan a little bit and was talking with one of their sales persons for a few different phone calls. I learned that they are charging almost twice what a local college will charge you and also that if you take certain courses and earn credits with Kaplan and then decide to change schools, that your new school will most likely not credit you for the work that you have done at Kaplan. Also i read that quite a few people were told that their student loans were to be approved and to just go ahead and start the program only to find out later that they did not receive student loans and then were responsible for paying kaplan for the semester regardless if they had actually taken any classes or not. I don't need to waste my money...how about you?

Kaplan has one of the best organized online educational websites

5

I just finished my first term at Kaplan University.  I have, since day one, been absolutely stunned by the open, friendly, knowledgable and helpful staff and instructors at Kaplan.  Their student website is the easiest to navigate. It is user friendly and has technical support always ready, willing and able to assist.  This is not my first online educational experience, but certainly by far the best.  I had no problem getting my student financial aid together quickly and without stress!( a huge plus! ) Registering for classes takes five (yes 5) minutes. Everyone is helpful(staff- and student-wise). Wow!  This is the most positive educational experience I have had--and that includes campus and online! P. S. Kaplan does have campuses--they are not only an online educational system.  Kaplan University is owned by The Washington Post--I think that helps give them credibility! Check 'em out--you might just find what you're looking for. I take two classes per ten week term. EVERYTHING is online. Once a week I attend a seminar online. Some include audio, some not.  Each term things just seem to get better and better. Tons of resources right on the website for you to access. Easy to submit assignments. Easy access to emails if you want/need to get in touch with classmates or instructors. Great interaction between instructor and classmates. Books automatically sent to you. All I have to do is get online, do my assignments, attend my seminar, study(of course) and get my grades.  I plan on staying with Kaplan to complete my Master's Degree, too!!!! That should say it all! \
