Kali's Mezze - Baltimore, MD —

Kali's Mezze is a lovely little restaurant that serves Mediterranean tapas in the heart of Fells Point.  The restaurant is two floors:  the first, being dominated by the bar area, has a few tables and is usually bustling; the second floor is far more intimate, with low lighting and tasteful decor.

Mezze has a good wine list, although I generally start with a glass of the Prosecco or homemade Sangria.  I usually go with a small group of people, and we tend to order several plates to share.  The service is excellent and the food is brought out at intervals to ensure that there is food on the table at all times, without getting bunched up.

The tapas are melt-in-your-mouth delicious.  Of the appetizer tapas, my favorite is the Haloumi cheese and tomato, which is served on a flatbread with fresh basil.  Also noteworthy are the falafel, asparagus, and tzaziki.  Of the more substantial tapas, the crabcakes are some of the best, which is saying a lot, given that Baltimore is the home of the crabcake.  The baby lamb chops are well-seasoned and cooked perfectly, and the moussaka is incredible.

If you've managed to save room for dessert, Mezze also performs well, particularly with the chocolate cake and the baklava.

Even with the quality of the food, the prices are not outrageous.  You can generally get enough food and order a couple of drinks without spending more than $30 a person.  And it is well worth it!
