One night, my 4 year old grandson and I were sitting on a bed reading when he suddenly pointed and exclaimed, "why are there numbers on the wall?"  I wasn't sure at first what he was referring to. I looked up and saw an amazing sight--the current time displayed in crisp red numbers like a neon sign right above the doorway. I looked over at the nightstand and realized that my stepdaughter had a new clock-radio I'd never seen before: the jWin JL-708 Self-Setting Atomic Alarm Projection Clock with Blue Backlight LCD.

The more I learned about the jWin Projection Clock, the more I fell in love with it. It's very much like a standard clock radio, but it has some surprisingly cool features:

  • 120º projection capability that can easily be turned on or off.
  • Easy to read blue backlit LCD display.
  • The ability to automically set itself to the official US Atomic Clock so you know the time is always right.
  • Dual alarm with a weekend cancellation feature so you're not needlessly waking yourself up at 5 a.m. on a Sunday morning.
  • Battery back up unit that will power the clock in the event you lose electricity.
  • Ninety minute sleep-to-music function for those who like to be serenaded while drifting off to sleep.
  • Standard clock radio functions, such as : Snooze alarm, AM/FM receiver, Music or Buzzer alarm.

I felt like the clock worked as well as the moderately priced clock I have in my own bedroom. In a nutshell, this clock radio fills a need for those of us who aren't blessed with 20/20 vision. The blue backlit display on the face of the clock makes it easy to read even if you don't have the projector on. Even better, the large red display projected onto the wall means no fumbling for eyeglasses or straining to check out the time when it's dark and you're sleepy. The only downside for me, is that the projection really is only easily visible when it's quite dark in the room. I couldn't see it at all during the early dawn when we awoke, nor can I see it very well even on a really cloudy day.

Overall, I think the jWIN JL-708 Atomic Projection Alarm Clock is a real winner. The ability to self-set to the US Atomic Clock and the back up batteries means that you never have to worry about getting the time wrong again. The blue back light LCD screen and red projected display makes viewing the time much easier.
