We received so many different blanket before our son was born.  The most used blanket we received was the Just Born Wish Upon a Star Security Blanket.  This was a gift from his 5 year old cousin who knew how much her blankie meant to her.  Oh yeah and she bought two as it is well known in her family that you always have a back-up blankie.

The Wish Upon a Star Security Blanket is not your average blankie.  Measuring at only 16 inches square its sole purpose is to be used as a lovey.  This particular blanket has a blue star theme to it and has four 6" squares resembling a quilt (although not quilted), boarded by satin trim.  The back is all satin.  Each of the four squares has a different texture including fleece, satin and cotton.  The fleece square has a moon, some stars, and the words "Wish Upon a Star", embroidered on it.  Our only concern with this particular blanket is the stain is fraying some.  But what can you expect with daily love from a toddler.

Originally I knew my son would become attached to some object as a lovey as most children do.  I wanted to be able to control that so he wasn't dragging some odd household object around.  (I've heard of babies having an attachment to mom's t-shirts or even disposable diapers - clean of course.)  From the beginning I always used some blanket while putting Little Man to sleep to have him used to it.  Once summer came, I dug these blankies out so he could have a lighter blanket to carry around.  This also happened to be the peak attachment stage.  So now this is his best friend, even more so than the binkie.

There are various security blankets on the market nowadays.  We even have another that has never bee used.  I like that this one has several textures and matched the stars theme in my son's room.  Just Born Bedding can be found at Babies R Us and Kohl's as well as several on-line baby shops.

I used to have a special blankie and my parents couldn't even take it from me to wash it. I think I had it until I was like 7. I loved that blankie! lol.

In response to rfryer's comment from May 24, 2008 at 7:18PM:

Sorry I don't really know. My best suggestion would be to check e-bay. Every so often I see a listing for one or you could do a want-it-now posting to see is anyone has one. If you want something similar I would suggest Wal-Mart. Just recently, with my youngest, we searched all over for a blankie and only found similar versions there - and we looked everywhere it seemed. Hope that helps ~ Carrie
