After the first 10 minutes of "Juno," I thought "oh, it's going to be one of those movies that's weird for the sake of being weird," where the writer makes up phrases that she hopes will sound cool and hip, and prepared to be bored for the duration.

I was completely wrong. This is a great film about youth and innocence and losing them both. The characters are likable when they're supposed to be and they're not when they aren't. Ellen Page is outstanding as Juno, Michael Cera takes his top-notch dorkiness routine in a new direction to great effect, and the rest of the supporting cast is equally well-cast and well-acted. Probably the best piece of casting was Jennifer Garner in a role that a movie trying harder to be hip would have been played by Amanda Peet, or Paker Posey.

It's non-political, which is tough for a movie dealing with teenage pregnancy. It's more than just good clean fun, but it's fun, and it's good, and it's clean. It's sharp and witty and gives hope to the bleakest of situations.
