It's been a while since I've written a review. There's only been a few movies that I felt needed a review written about them to entice people to go see them. Jumper is most definitely one of those films. For about 2 weeks before Jumper came out, I had been hearing terrible things about it. Everything from lame and cheesy to bad acting and even that it was destined to be a box office flop. So when I decided to venture and check this film out for myself, I was entirely hesitant about it. I couldn't have been more surprised at how wrong all those rumors were (Well for the most part).

Plot:  A genetic abnormality somehow allows a young man to teleport anywhere he wishes. As he uses his power more, he comes to realize there are others like him and also, others who wish to exterminate his kind.

I really enjoyed this movie. The backstory at the begining was perfect. Sometimes movies can do too much backstory and throw the whole plot off track. Thankfully this was not the case, it was just enough to jump me into the plot and start my journey through the movie. The special effects were wonderful. The effects didnt seem too cheesy either, as they could have very easily been. One scene especially, where David Rice (Hayden Christensen) and Griffin (Jamie Bell) are speeding through downtown Tokyo and using their powers to teleport through traffic. Completely visually stunning.  The directing and cinematography was spot on as well.

Hayden Christensen, Jamie Bell, Diane Lane, Rachel Bilson, and Samuel L. Jackson are some of the actors in Jumper. Diane Lane and Hayden Christenson were really the only ones who's acting job could be considered good. Rachel Bilson seemed sort of lost in her role as the love interest. She reminds me of a young Kate Beckinsale and, with a few more acting roles, I think that she'll be well on her way to becoming a great actress. As for Samuel L. Jackson, well, he's Samuel L. Jackson. He been in tons of movies, many of which are classics. And I'll leave it at that, because he didn't do a bad job acting but, it wasn't spectacular. It was just...Samuel L. Jackson.

Jumper is a movie that I think the whole family could enjoy. There is one small scene with somewhat sexual content, and one scene in the begining with a guy getting killed but, other than that, its appropriate for most audiences. Of course there is a bit of violence but, it's very comic book style violence. If you enjoy fast paced, action packed movies, then you'll enjoy this one for sure. So check it out, you might be as pleasantly surprised as I was.

MPAA Rating: PG-13 (for sequences of intense action violence, some language and brief sexuality.)

Runtime: 1 hour 30 minutes

Year: 2008

Rating: 8.0

Ya know, I saw a commercial for this movie a few weeks back and I could swear I read a book with the same plot years ago. Based on your review I think I might check this one out.
