I feel a little odd writing a review about a product which was designed for babies without having had the responsibility or experience of caring for an infant. For me to write about baby powder is like a grown-up trying to visit Disney World without a child, but here goes ...
Like many adults, I tend to suffer from a certain amount of chafing and rashes especially in hot weather ... this in spite of daily showers, laundering my underwear in the hot water cycle, totally changing clothes every day, etc. Occasionally, problems still flare up especially if I am stressed out about something. I have found that Johnson's Baby Powder containing pure cornstarch with Aloe & Vitamin E judiciously applied after each shower has made a big difference. Just as the label promises -- it "gently absorbs excess moisture to keep skin dry & soft." Apparently, what works for babies may be just the ticket for the rest of us too. Johnson's Baby Powder is getting the job done and the product itself would deserve a five-star rating from me were it not for the type of container it is presented in.
The product comes in a shaker-type container, to be applied rather like salt or pepper. Doubtless, this isn't a problem when it is used on a person who weighs ten pounds and is lying prone on a changing table; however, I have found it to be messy to apply to myself. No matter how carefully I try to use this product, using moderate amounts applied with my hands (and not directly from the shaker), a fine mist of baby powder either rises up in the air or sifts down to the floor. Despite my best efforts at controlling the fine white powder, somehow I still end up having to scrub everything each day and as for my taffeta shower curtain, well ....
I think that Johnson & Johnson may be missing out on the marketing boat here by not offering this wonderful product in a specially designed and sophisticated looking container which includes a large powder puff for more convenient use by "grown-up babies" or something like that. Perhaps other Johnson & Johnson products could be marketed in this alternative way also. It could be a whole new line of products, packaged and designed especially to appeal to adults and perhaps displayed with adult cosmetic or bath items in drug or department stores. Not only would the products be easier to use but the advertising and promotional campaign thus generated might educate a whole new block of adult customers who may not have realized that what is good for Baby may be good for the rest of us as well.
