When my son was born, the first baby lotion I used was the "complimentary" bottle of Johnson's Baby Lotion (the pink stuff) and it worked really well. Once it came time to purchase a bottle of lotion Johnson's was first on my list. I had read about the calming aroma contained in the Johnson‘s Bedtime Lotion so I figured I would try it out. Hey, anything to get baby to sleep more than a few hours at the time was fair game.
My son naturally pretty soft normal skin so I wanted something that would help keep in the skin's natural moisture and assist in baby massage. The Johnson's Bedtime Lotion is a white cream with a lavender and baby powder scent, made help calm baby through the night. I really enjoyed the light scent, especially the sweetness that would be left over on my son‘s pajamas. A note of caution: those with seasonal allergies may have difficulty with the flowery scent.
As far as the calming aspect, I would venture to say it probably didn't do much besides make baby smell good. But, Little Guy definitely seemed to like this lotion over others we tried as he would get excited when he saw the bottle. We still have a small amount left - even though we used it continuously for six months. We don't really use lotion much anymore, but my son enjoys lotions now because of this product.
I found the Bedtime Lotion locked in moisture well. I tried to use the lotion every night - bath or no bath. If we happened to miss more than two nights baby's skin began to get dry. Using only a dab on my finger for each limb, the lotion would rub on smoothly and dry prior to putting PJ's on. My complaint with the lotion - it can be slightly watery. Once placed on a finger it will run some (not so good for a wiggly infant).
I purchased the Bedtime Lotion in a 15 oz translucent bottle with a flip top, lavender cap. The cap became worn out as we used it more and more so some nights it had problems closing. With continued use it was easy to see how much lotion remained, but it then became more difficult to get the product out. Shake, shake, shake... oh good there's a squirt. Now let's balance the bottle on the top, and over it goes. A pump would have been much better.
Johnson's helps lock in natural moisture and makes baby smell sweet. If you have a baby with fairly normal skin, try this out as a great addition to your bedtime routine. Johnson's Bedtime Lotion is widely available where baby supplies are sold for around $4 per bottle. Johnson's also makes a Bedtime Bath and a Bedtime Massage Gel.
