a fan of clever plots, a fan of epic dramas, character-lover
I have to admit that when I was young, History was my least favorite subject. Oh, I did well in it, but I didn't exactly enjoy it. I memorized enough to ace the test and promptly dismissed it from my mind as ancient stories that had no relevance to my life in modern times. Interestingly, the HBO Films miniseries -- John Adams -- is exactly the type of historical series that can help a reluctant student better appreciate the drama, significance, and lessons of history. Paul Giamatti stars as John Adams and Laura Linney portrays Abigail -- his wife of 54 years. …

a movie buff, Likes to be entertained, waiting for the DVD, watching with kids
Being a history geek, as my teenage son calls me, I read John Adams soon after it came out, so I was really excited when I saw that HBO films had made a mini-series out of it. I am happy to say that I was not disappointed in what they did in bringing the story to the screen. It was true to the book and historically accurate. At the same time, it was full of passion, both in portraying John Adams' love for his new country, as well as his lifelong love for his wife. As impressed as I was with HBO's portrayal of John Adams and his fellow patriots' fiery…

This mini series was absolutely outstanding. It provides a realistic view of what our founding fathers endured both personally and politically. Many Americans have a "romantic" idea of life at the time of our independence, however this series educates the viewer about the hardships endured by those willing to dedicate their lives for the creation of America. — Every American should watch this series to appreciate the reality of the sacrifices made by our founding fathers. It will provide the viewer a new respect for those who came before us and…

a fan of clever plots, character-lover, a woman, an infrequent movie goer, Open-minded
True to the book. Could have explained Adams's and Jefferson's falling out a little better, but all-in-all, a terrific portrayal of the times surrounding our war for independence and the founding of our country. Does a much better job of explaining history than those boring "name and date and moving-right-along" history books we teach our kids from. Lets us know that the founding fathers were real people with flaws and families, and that they were individuals, never all of one…

I really enjoyed this mini-series. It gave you a humanistic look into the making of this country. We hold these men up as icons, and don't see them as humans with goals and desires as portayed on this series. I really liked all the characters and thought that they were very well cast. I am anticipating the DVD. I think I would like this for my collection. —…

a movie buff, a huge TV fan, an avid TV watcher
The miniseries John Adams recently concluded its seven-episode run on HBO, and it will be missed. The miniseries, based on the biography by David McCulloch, starred Paul Giamatti in the titular role and Laura Linney as Abigail Adams. — The storyline, though familiar from history lessons, was intriguing, as it showed a different perspective on the events of America's fight for independence from England. Until McCulloch's book, John Adams and his contributions to the formation of our nation were largely ignored and overshadowed by those of his contemporaries. …

an infrequent movie goer
I loved what HBO did in producing this mimi series about a man that most of us have heard of but many of us did not know what his life was all about. This really gave an in deoth look in to the aspects of his life and his constnt struggle to make sure that America ganed its independence from the british. The dramatization that was displayed should win awards and I would recommend this to anyone that any type of interest in the History of how this country was…

As with many things Tom Hanks touches, this production is a wonderful adaptation of the book that focuses on John Adams' role in history. The story moves fast and spends no time in gratuitious scenes. You arrive at the end of each episode not having believed it was an hour, and immediately wanting more. The acting is very strong in a period piece. While this is a history lesson, it is also an extremely interesting and entertaining…
