The Tenth Circle

By Jodi Picoult

The storyline:

This book is an amazing story of a small family of three. The Mom is a busy professor at the local college, the dad stays home and writes comics and takes care of the family and the daughter is just 15 years old, her name, is Trixie. She has just had her heart broken by her first boyfriend, and unfortunately is not able to accept it. This leads to a party where things go wrong and Trixie is raped. From here the story really delves in to the life of this family - past and present and how they are going to keep themselves together and continue on. It also has a great "whodunit" quality to it that really keeps you on the edge of your seat.

My take:

I really liked this book. I couldn't put it down. After reading it I realized it was made in to a movie on lifetime this past June, so I am going to download it on iTunes so I can watch it. The mother in the story teaches Dante at the college, and there is a great twist where the father is incorporating Dante's inferno and the levels of hell, in to his latest comic, that really gives a new refreshing detail to just writing a book. It's almost two tales in one. In addition, at the time of the rape the mother is having an affair with one of her students. And there is something cold and dark about the father's upbringing in Alaska that keeps you turning the pages. I think this is a book to be enjoyed by all.

This was actually my first JP book. I am going to definitely read more of them. I will try My Sister's Keeper.

I haven't read the book but I did watch the movie twice and is spellbinding. I also read JP's "My Sister's Keeper." This is the ultimate tear jerker. It's loaded with language which easily offends me but I have to make myself realize that I am not in their world....My Sister's Keeper would make an awesome movie too! Have you read any other JP books? If so, have you read Harvesting the Heart? I've been thinking about reading that one.
