Jessica Seinfeld - Deceptively Delicious: Simple Secrets to Get Your Kids Eating Good Food Reviews

I received the Deceptively Delicious cookbook for my birthday last year and have used it consistently ever since.  Jessica Seinfeld's "simple secrets to get your kids eating good food" work exceptionally well on my husband.  The recipes are easy to make and leave me feeling like I am doing something good for my family. 

The whole premise of the Deceptively Delicious cookbook is to "hide" pureed fruits and veggies in everyday foods without your kids (or spouse) having any clue.  This is a great way to get in your daily allotment of fruits and veggies while eating foods you actually like. ...

I bought this book after seeing Jessica on the Oprah show. The recipies looked so easy and delicious that I couldn't wait to see the book for myself. Within 24 hrs of seeing the show, I was on the Internet purchasing the book. The day I got the book in the mail I was off to the grocery store to stock up on a few things like wheat germ, flax seed meal, and lots of fresh veggies (new for us!) I spent an entire Sunday afternoon pureeing the veggies after I cooked them. This was the hardest part, but I now have a freezer full of different pureed veggies to use at a moments notice.

I have three daughters.  My middle and youngest daughters like only certain veggies, but my oldest daughter hates almost all types of veggies with the exception of green beans and corn.  It was getting really old trying to fight her to get even a small amount of veggies into her.  Finally, I saw Jessica on the Oprah show and my eyes were opened quite a bit!

I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical about buying this cookbook (Deceptively Delicious by Jessica Seinfeld).  The retro cover and cute illustrations kept me admiring it, but I could never commit to the cost of it for what I perceived the value to be.  I am converted, however, after trying several of the recipes and finding them to be truly delicious.  I was also surprised to read about this being Jerry Seinfeld's physician wife.  Equally surprising was the fact that Jerry is now a Dad, but that is beside the point.

This is a must have cookbook for any kitchen. My daughter is a nutrition major and heard about Deceptively Delicious from one of her roommates. While out shopping I bought the book for her and gave it to her over the weekend. I was skeptical, but was willing to give it a shot. I have a 17 year old who doesn't like most vegetables. My daughter decided to start with something he likes, Macaroni and Cheese. This recipe uses califlower puree. The recipe was easy to follow and easy to make. I picked this book up at the library to try out on my kids.  I liked it so much that I bought it.  The purees take some prep, but results are worth it.  It is surprising the many different everyday foods that are made healthy using her recipes.  Who knew you could feed your kids veggies in their cookies and brownies?
