As a makeup artist who loves color and high performance, I have managed to play with and/or acquire a whole host of mineralized eyeshadows from high end to drugstore.  One of the more exciting brands of mineralized eyeshadow has been the JESSE'S GIRL releases of mineral eyeshadow- baked eye shadow in the domed tradition that MAC and others have released.

JESSE'S GIRL has just released a new display of BAKED POWDER EYESHADOW which is mineral in appearance and a swirl of shimmer and colors.  One of these shadows in the collection is called SKYWALKER.

WHAT IS SKYWALKER LIKE?

SKYWALKER is a baked domed eyeshadow which is in a black container with a clear top just like MAC's.  There is 3.8 gms of eyeshadow in the dome (as compared to the 2.2 grams of product in MAC mineralized eyeshadows which cost over 3 times more).  It can be used wet or dry.  The package comes in a clear wrap so that it can not be opened unless the seal is broken.  The price I paid was $3.99.

SKYWALKER is a beautiful robin's egg blue with sky blue shimmer in it.  Although there are pockets of microglitter in SKYWALKER, when applied to the skin, the effect is more subtle than MAC pigments that are similar such as AZREAL BLUE or MUTINY.

HOW TO USE SKYWALKER

The best way to apply SKYWALKER eye shadow from JESSE'S GIRL is to apply dry with a brush over a good base that enhances eye shadows.  A few examples are, URBAN DECAY PRIMER POTION or TOO FACED SHADOW INSURANCE.

Another way to apply SKYWALKER is to use a damp brush and apply over an eyeshadow base.  This will bring forth a very metallic intense look- which is not what many women want, but those of us who enjoy makeup art, will be happy with the performance of SKYWALKER in this manner.  I have found that using a mixture of glycerine and water (1:3) makes it work even better.

COMMENTS

I like SKYWALKER a lot.  The color is not just a powder blue, but it has an aqua depth to it that makes it a step beyond light blue.  The best way to describe SKYWALKER is to say that it is like a mix of AZREAL BLUE and MUTINY pigments from MAC.

(I have included a comparison photo of the three colors mentioned above with this review.  Just press on the tiny photo to the upper right of this review to enlarge it for better detail.)

Although this is not a color I use constantly, it is nice to have this color available in a highly pigmented form that performs pretty closely to MAC which is much higher in price.

I will say, however, that SKYWALKER is VERY fragile. I only had this for a few days when I dropped it only a few inches onto the padded sink and it shattered.  That is why the photo is not very clear, because I could not photograph it well lest it fall out of the container.

In a case like this, I will put alcohol in with this and repress it to make it useable.  It won't be pretty to look at, but it will still be functional for use as makeup on the face.

For the price, if you like colors like AZREAL BLUE or MUTINY from MAC, you will most likely appreciate SKYWALKER.  If you like the quality of MAC mineralize shadows or pigments you will probably like this as well- the price is a LOT LESS which is great too.

I also like that JESSE'S GIRL BAKED EYESHADOWS have almost TWICE as much product in them for almost 1/4 of the price.  If only they would make more colors in the future, I can see these becoming a serious competitor for brands like MAC.

WHERE TO GET

I have checked the JESSE'S GIRL site (www.jessesgirlcosmetics.com) but there is not any trace of this new collection of eyeshadows.  I purchased mine at RITE AID drustore.
