As a non-car guy (meaning I own cars, but know nothing about how they work or how to fix them), finding a good auto mechanic that I can trust is a necessity. Jerry's Auto in Chicago fits the bill perfectly. I can't comment on their automotive expertise, but I can tell you that:
I've come away with a good feeling every time my car leaves their shop, whether it be for routine maintenance, a minor repair or something more significant. Jerry and his team provide very good estimates, great customer service and great prices. Jerry also provides "honest" assessments and lower-cost alternatives. For example, I was experiencing a slight shimmy when cruising at high highway speeds (above 65 MPH). It turns out it was because of slightly bent rims. Jerry offered to fix the rims as best he could (saying that would address most of the problem) or he could replace the rims (which would eliminate the problem but at a much higher expense). He left it up to me to make the call. (I went the less expensive route.)
Anyway, I highly recommend Jerry's Auto. The only slight negative is that given his popularity, there can be a wait for service. I would call ahead if at all possible. I also must confess that this is the first time I am going public with my recommendation for Jerry - I now live in the suburbs and am not as concerned about sending him too much business :)
If anyone out there feels the same about their mechanic in the Glenview area, please let me know.
