The town of Jericho is quaint, friendly and (to take a line from a song) it's where "everybody knows your name"....I love it!
The residents of Jericho are faced with a big problem when nuclear bombs destroy much of the United States. Because of their location, they were far enough from the bombs for everyone to survive. What happens next is nothing less than amazing and something that no other TV show has ever delved into: What would happen if nuclear war started and you were a survivor left in a country with no power, no communication, no access to food or medical care?
"Rangers" (if you watch the second season, you will understand the nickname) are hardy, good hearted folks for the most part and, they know how to band together to get the right things done. The characters of Jericho are amazing, they put a new spin on reality, I have never seen characters portrayed with more soul and feeling. These actors put themselves into a fictional situation that no one in the US has had to endure and they made it believable. So believable that over 6,000,000 people in our fair country, and around the world, have become die hard fans of Jericho.
What do I mean by "Die Hard"? After the first season, CBS, in their infinite non-wisdom, decided to cancel Jericho. The fans got word of this and, in a tribute to a parting line of the season, went nuts. Yes, they mailed, brought, shipped, and flew in MILLIONS of peanuts, the kind you eat, to CBS. They begged, borrowed and pleaded and eventually CBS agreed to renew Jericho for 1 season...of 7 shows. Jericho was the first TV show to ever be renewed after cancellation because fans stepped in and let the network know that they cared and that Neilsen's numbers are not as accurate as the networks try to make them seem.
Fast forward to the second season, once again CBS cancelled it and once again the fans stepped in...only we didn't go nuts this time, we organized a major media blitz with letters, cards, and postcards sent to other networks and to CBS begging for a new slot for our beloved show. To date, a few of the actions that were taken included a TV commercial, a billboard, several interviews on radio and internet, newspaper articles and gifts sent to various executives thanking them for their help in our quest...all of these things were paid for by the fans of Jericho (we know how to band together to get what we want too)...and trust me, it is not cheap to make a TV commercial or rent a billboard in the middle of hollywood but it will be worth it if we are eventually able to get this show up and running again.
Why do I think it's that important that this show continue? Because it made people think. My family and I actually had conversations after each episode and talked about what might happen next. Jericho is a serial and always left us guessing. Jericho's writers are nothing less than genious, and they WANT to continue writing the story. Watch the first and second season of Jericho and you will understand our passion for this incredible show. Jericho is the best show ever aired on TV in my opinion. In the middle of reality tv and sexual comedy, a show with some gusto stepped in and stole the hearts of millions...watch Jericho, you'll see what I mean. If you want to watch it online, the first season can be seen on Fancast.com.
