Jennifer Hudson - Jennifer Hudson —

I have NEVER been a big American Idol fan but have caught some great moments along the way. One of those moments involved Jennifer Hudson and how she floored me with her singing ability. I was blown away so much so that I started to watch (when I had the chance) to see her sing her heart out.

Once she was voted off I pretty much forgot about her but little did I or the world know that Miss Hudson was not quite done with us just yet. Soon the word got out that she would be in the much hyped screen version of the Broadway hit Dreamgirls which she grabbed the coveted Oscar for. With the steam that win created her musical dreams seem to be put on the back burner.......that is until now.

I could not wait for this release because I had been pulling for Jennifer from day one but once I heard an advance copy of the CD my worst fears were confirmed. Hudson vocals are in tip top shape and form be it wailing like Patti Labelle or singing as soft as Anita Baker. I knew from the days of Idol that Jennifer could carry a tune simply on the merit of her beautiful vocals alone. Now if only the music chosen could have matched or rather complimented Jennifer's vocals we would have a clear winner.

Track-list:

  1. Spotlight
  2. If This Isn't Love
  3. Pocketbook featuring Ludacris
  4. Giving Myself
  5. What's Wrong (Go Away) featuring T-Pain
  6. My Heart
  7. You Pulled Me Through
  8. I'm His Only Woman featuring Fantasia
  9. Can't Stop The Rain
  10. We Gon' Fight
  11. Invisible
  12. And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going (Highlights Version)
  13. Jesus Promised Me A Home Over There

In Closing:

While I understand the strategy of the music business I was hoping that the right music would be chosen but instead of easily forgettable radio blather. Here hoping that an equal companion in music can be found the next time round!

No.....sadly she is stuck in the "gotta make a hit" mode with the all to the same sound that allot of r&b music has! So sad because she has one heck of a voice!

I was wondering how her album would turn out. She has a fabulous voice, but I wondered if she would grow into a unique style that will give her longevity.

It's sad because she is a great singer....she just needs better material!

Too bad! The music industry is based on the stars aligning just right...
