Janome Sewing Machine - Janome Serger - Juno 3434D —

First, I am an independent serger instructor, so over the years I have seen almost every make and model of serger made. This serger is made in Taiwan for Janome/New Home. The inside looks like other Sears/Janome sergers I've seen in my classes.

I purchased this machine on sale at Hancock Fabrics under the name Juno Janome, as a second serger. I didn't want or need a fancy serger....just a basic 2/3/4 thread machine with a wide stitch. Right out of the box I knew I had made a wise decision.

There are minimal thread guides which increase tension. This means the tension disks can perform their intended functions--stitch formation. The knife cuts from the bottom up providing easy access to the needles.

Threading the lower loopers was a breeze! No tweezers or contortions necessary. Push enough thread through the left hole on the lower looper, finger hold it in place while you turn the flywheel and pick up the thread with your fingers to thread the last hole of the looper. An absolute snap.

During threading I had turned the tension dials to zero, turned them back to 3 as suggested in the manual, and within 6" of stitching, had perfect stitch formation. This was accomplished with just two adjustments on the widest 3-thread stitch, something typically a bit more difficult to accomplish.

The machine is a bit loud out of the box, but I'm sure some oil will remedy that. If it doesn't, the noise isn't at all distracting, and I'll trade that for the great stitch formation.

The manual is easy to read and follow. A mimimum of accessories are included (two screw drivers, needles, tweezer) but they are all that is necessary to operate a serger. No additional feet such as blind hem foot are included, but the plate and foot for rolled hemming is included. The unnecessary thread nets are not included.

I'd heartily recommend this serger for any purpose. It's a great value for the price.
